Why is Bush going to war without the approval of the U.N.? Will his disregard for this global organization lead to the breakdown of international treaties, and eventual anarchy?

Why is Bush so eager to attack Iraq because they are not complying with the U.N. disarmament resolution, and yet he is totally oblivious to the U.N. resolution 242?

Because the next election is coming up and his numbers are down. The economy is in the tank and not getting anybetter and he needs something to blame a bad economy on.

Pick one, OR BOTH.

Bush wants what he wants. Nothing and no one will convince him to change his course.

Uh--I'm not a bush guy, but it's not necessary to get UN permission to initiate hostilities. For example, France had a long conflict in Algeria without UN approval.

Why is Bush going to war without the approval of the U.N.?

Because the UN is not a one world government. We live in a sovereign nation here in the United States and there is no authority to us higher than our own. Not the UN, not France or Germany either. We are our own sovereign nation and make our own choices and decisions.

The UN is a great organization, it gives countries a forum to speak their concerns ? make no mistakes though the UN is not a governing body, they are not on your side, they have no army, no land, no real power.

Nations are sovereign and do not answer to the UN.

And look at the history of that conflict. One of the most bloody revolutionary wars, claiming countless lives and creating a hostility between Imperial France and Northern Africa that exists today.

Olds you love posting that simplistic link by the neo-conservative Heritage foundation. It's so bias and simplistic I don't have the capacity to debunk it. But read these if you want to know the Real reasons which that article gives none. Read from the source.

Townhall common read rumis letter and his writtings back in 74 and 75. Ill read your link even if you don't care to read mine:)...

I agree with her but it's not the only reason;) and don't thnk I'm antiwar either. I'm just not sure we will fight this with great concern for human life and then I question if it's worth it.

I read yours and I agree with parts of it. But stuff like this bothers me:
The Plan is for the United States to rule the world. The overt theme is unilateralism, but it is ultimately a story of domination. It calls for the United States to maintain its overwhelming military superiority and prevent new rivals from rising up to challenge it on the world stage. It calls for dominion over friends and enemies alike. It says not that the United States must be more powerful, or most powerful, but that it must be absolutely powerful.
I don't believe that is true. Yes, we want to be more powerful than anyone else. But it isn't because of world domination. It is to protect ourselves. If we are the biggest, baddest due on the block. It is much more difficult to mess with us. It's called security for our citizens. I grew up during the Cold War. I remember the drills we did in case Russia attacked us. If no one is strong enough to attack us, we are safer.
Now I would agree that imposing our will on other countires is not entirely the right thing to do. But I sleep better at night because we do and I can live with that.
