Noooooooooo!!!!

The end may be near for the highly popular animated series "The Simpsons", reports The Financial Times.

"Simpsons" creator Matt Groening has admitted increased difficulty in coming up with new and surprising story-lines for the show's characters.

"It becomes increasingly difficult as the years go by to keep on not only surprising the audience, but surprising ourselves," Groening told the Financial Times. "I think we are closer to winding it up."

Another factor in the possible cancellation of "The Simpsons" is the lack of involvement Groening has in the show, which has been steadily declining over the years.

Over the last 13 years, Groening and his creations Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie have earned millions for Rupert Murdoch's Fox channel, but problems with Fox's executives have created some tension.

The Financial Times reports that Groening says his suggestions often get over-ruled by the Fox Network.

Although, the future of "The Simpsons" may be in limbo for some time yet, the same cannot be said for Groening's other creation, "Futurama". The show has been cancelled after its fourth season.

"They haven't really supported it, said Matt Groening. I think it's a worthy companion to "The Simpsons" and we're really proud of it. But Fox gave it a bad slot and zero promotion for the last three years".

Meanwhile, there has been some talk regarding a possible "Simpsons" movie, but Groening is not sure whether Fox wants to make the film and has concerns regarding the outcome of a "Simpsons" film.

"When any character is as stupid as Homer Simpson, it's hard to keep surprising the audience," he said.

"Although what happens generally if we win the Emmy for best animation show is that gives us another couple of years to run it into the ground."

I hate to be the one to say it, but the Simpsons has just been stupid lately. After Maude died, it went down the tube. Now, I'm a huge Simpsons fan, but it's time is over. It's better to leave on a (even though slightly) postive note than a negative one.

I think The Simpsons is great but it is time to lay it down to rest. I can't believe those bastards are cancelling Futurama though.
