"Ha! Right now I'd be more inclined to think that ATi might pick up the remains of nVidia pretty cheap about a year from now?"
"I think nVidia is about to get their ass handed to 'em on a platter in a couple of weeks when ATi brings out their new low-end DX9 line-up and sweeps that area of the marketshare too."

"If that's true then I feel confident in telling you that nVidia's days are absolutely numbered."

This stuff isn't any different than the doom and gloom that has been predicted by people about ATi recently because of how late R520 has been. Both are great companies that won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I can see no reason why this humorous old nostalgia should offend anyone, except maybe "Digital Wanderer" who's been proven not to be a psychic.

i'm just ****** tired of every single thread that contains anything related to anything turning to a flamefest, thereby relegating this entire topic to a minimally useful dump for 3 or 4 angry fanboys of both sides to crap all over all the time. By the looks of it, this thread will probably devolve into it too so it's probably a better idea to stop it now.

Well Rollo may have thought it was worth mentioning Digital Wanderer because he has a special relationship with Terry Makedon aka Catalyst Maker from ATi. A few years back Terry gave DW a free Radeon 9700 Pro for no reason. I asked Terry why he gave DW a free card and if I could have one too and he rudely replied, "because I felt like it?". 🙁 lol.

Maybe if I post "With the release of the super terrific, flawless X1800XT, ATI has put the final nail in nVidias coffin. ATI will soon be buying the state of California and foreclosing on nVidia's Santa Clara offices through powers of eminent domain" he'll give me a card too!

lol it's worth a try but I think you have to take it a step further and be like DW: quit working, let your wife support you and post pro-ATi propaganda 24/7 to get Terry's attention. Then you might get lucky and receive a free X1800XL or something. BTW I'm not degrading DW, he seems like a good guy. Just making a semi-funny reply is all, so I hope all the fanatics don't get their panties in a bunch over what I just said. 😉

Not just some guy, but rather a vocal advocate of ATi that received a free card from an ATi rep for no reason. Now this vocal advocate is also affiliated with a website (Elite Bastards) which makes him more than "some guy".

This just goes to prove that companies can pull themselves out of the gutter. Times are bleak for ATI right now, but they'll pull through. They're only losing the high end, and that's not exactly a money maker.

Actually the high end brings in the biggest margins but aside from that I agree. ATi is still doing well and will easily pull out this short-lived down cycle.
