[I have experience with only DirecTV and Cox Cable. They both have this issue. I am told that Dish has a way around this.]
I currently have a cable tv DVR with two tuners. I don't care about watching TV. I just want it to record new episodes of shows I like. I don't care if the shows don't get recorded live. For example, I am ok if the Daily Show gets recorded at the 11 PM rerun rather than 7 PM live time.
The problem is the only settings are "Record new episodes only or record all episodes including reruns."
Example:
Record Daily Show 7-730 PM, daily
Record Burn Notice, 7-8 pm, Wednesdays
Record Top Chef 7-730 PM, Weds
Crap. One day a week (Weds), there's a problem. It can't record all three. I come home and see one of them is missing. What it should do is realize taht Daily show reruns (still a new episode compared to what was previously recorded) later. So, it should record Burn Notice and Top Chef at 7 then Daily Show at 11. Or it can see that Burn Notice reruns in a marathon format each Saturday so it should grab it then.
Am I the only person that has this issue? I think the solution would be a website that would work as thus:
1. Enter your zipcode to get a list of providers
2. Choose your provider and package
3. Enter your shows
4. It spits out a list of which channels/times you should record.
I know this is possible because TV Guide has steps 1 and 2. And with placed like TVDB and TV Rage I know there are big free databases of show times, dates, and summaries.
