No, not this family, the Duggars:

By now, they might just be getting the hang of this. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 17th child, a baby girl, on Thursday.

Jennifer Danielle is the latest member of the ever-growing Arkansas family, which has captured national attention in appearances on the Discovery Health Network. The baby was born at 10:01 a.m. at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rogers, Ark., and weighed in at 8 lbs. 8 oz., the Associated Press reports.

"We are so grateful to God," says Michelle Duggar, 40, in a statement. "Jennifer is so precious and beautiful and such a sweet gift." Adds her husband: "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."

Jim Bob Duggar, 42, says Jennifer was born via a VBAC ? or vaginal birth after Caesarean.

And the parents may not be through just yet. "We'd love to have more," Michelle says.

The Duggars' other kids (ranging from 2 to 19 and including two sets of twins) are: Joshua, 19; John David, 17; Janna, 17; Jill, 16; Jessa, 14; Jinger, 13; Joseph, 12; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 9; Jedidiah, 8; Jeremiah, 8; Jason 7; James, 6; Justin, 4; Jackson, 3; Johannah, almost 2.

The family's next special, the Duggar Family Album, is scheduled to air next month on Discovery Health.

They have the family on Discovery Health right now (previous profile).

Mom takes care of the kid until it's weaned, then it becomes the responsibility of the other older children to take care of... the "buddy system" as they call it.

Why stopping when the tax payers are footing for all the bills and everything?

Thats what I was thinking.

I don't mean to sound evil, but someone needs to say enough is enough.

I dated a chick in Tejas who had 21 siblings. Yes, that means 22 children birthed by the same mother/father. Two died, so techincally she had 19 living siblings. She was writing a book when i dated her, i wonder if she will ever publish it. She was the *only* one to go to/graduate college. :Q

Edit: This ""We are so grateful to God," says Michelle Duggar" woman needs to be shot.

Wow, you guys are all pretty quick to assume that they're doing this on the "uncle sam pays for everything" plan! How do you know that this guy isn't making 6 figures a year, and has his own health insurance? Or is this simply a matter of "they're from Arkansas, so they MUST be on welfare!"???

I know a trucker here, who has 17 children with his wife. They spread them out a little more, with the youngest (when I met him) being ~2, while the oldest was in their mid-30's. And he worked his butt off to support that family, without ever taking a dime from Uncle Sam!

While I agree that (IMHO) enough is enough, it's nevertheless the choice of the parents to decide when they've had enough. As long as they're taking care of the kids, and they're not running around like some cross between the Beverley Hillbillies and Lord of the Flies, I have no problem with it. :)

However, I do have to wonder if the wife in this sort of situation ever heard of the word NO!!.........or, "I've got a headache tonight!!" ;)

bingo. I know some families where 1 child is way too much, and other families where 7 is not enough.

Knee-jerk reactions from nonbreeder/DINKs should be expected though.

I saw a show on the duggars a while back on the tlc or health channel I forget. but they were taking a road trip cross country with the entire clan. They had a huge house and it didn't look like they were that bad off for money. They all wore matching clothes and it looked like the girls were only allowed to wear dresses.

Why? Adoption isn't for everyone. There is nothing wrong with them wanting to have their own kids. Looking down on them for that is stupid IMO.

Quoted for stupidity.

From Wikipedia

James Robert (Jim Bob) Duggar (born 1963), of Tontitown, Arkansas, served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002.

Duggar was a candidate for the United States Senate in 2002, but lost to Tim Hutchinson.[1] Duggar sought the Republican nomination to the Arkansas State Senate District 35 seat in Arkansas in 2006,[2] but lost to candidate Bill Pritchard. Duggar is a real estate agent, and owns several commercial properties in his local area.

I don't see how the taxpayers are involved at all.

yeap. they have the money to be able to take care off all the kids. wich is fine.

they are NOT on welfare or other goverment help. unlike many other families with just 1 or two kids.

I apologized if they dont depends on welfare at all. I saw them briefly on TV today on CNN( i think) on their 7000 square feet house. So the father got to be really a successful real estate agent consider the mom probably doesnt working and 17 kids take a hell lot of money each year.

As much as people will bash this family for one thing or another, seeing ALL of the shows on them, the kids seem very well adjusted and smart. It might not be most people "cup-o-tea" but for them... it is their life and they are happy.

The parents are a bunch of evangelical nut jobs who home school the kids because they don't believe in evolution.

As for the mother.. it must be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway at this point, she'll get to 20 in no time.

Crude, but well substantiated if you ask me.

After reading several articles about these people and how they raise their kids (or should I say, how the older ones are taught to raise the younger ones) I find their constant procreating and persistent socially controlling lifestyle enforcement disgusting.

Sure they may feel their doing God's Will by bringing these kids into the world, and they obviously have a lot of love to go around.. I'm not questioning their motives. I just feel bad for how screwed up some of them may become after living at such high capacity. How could you NOT feel insignificant in a family like that? How can you even be a responsible parent with so many mouths to feed? The neglect those kids must be going through is borderline abuse if you ask me.

You just shouldn't have that many kids in this day and age, there's simply no point.. were past the days of young teens going to war and plantation maintenance before modern technology. There's just no logical reason to have 17 kids, at some point after 10 you have to practice birth control.

You've got a lot of anger towards people who've never done anything to you. Kind of sad, really, BrokenVisage. They're living their lives as they see fit, not hurting anyone else, and not getting a handout to do so. Commendable, really.

As far as they're being no need to have that many kids, it's not going to effect the population at all. The entire country is reproducing at a rate of 1.6 children per couple, which is going to result in a decline in the population of the US in the next fifty years . . .

Whatever dude.. I'm not "angry" at them, I just find the situation they let themselves get into disgusting and feel bad for the kids. That's not saying the kids in actuality aren't happy or the parents are being neglectful, but that's how I interpret it from my perspective.

I think I made my reasons clear, so if you can't see where I'm coming from at this point then I'm not surprised you misunderstood me. I already stated I'm not questioning their motives, but I'm allowed to have a damn opinion about what they've done/are still doing and I'm simply against it. I'm sorry if you feel its "sad", then again worrying what people think about me on here hasn't stopped me from speaking my mind in the past, and I don't plan on stopping now.
