So I watched it for the first time last night.

I just don't get what this movie is trying to show me or tell me.....besides sexual curiosity and how spoiled brats get away with many things.

i agree with eva's hotness.

but i just don't see this film to just be a simple way to showcase her 'talent.'
there's got to be more to the movie especially with people consider this as an art film.

i read a blog last night describing how the tent in the movie symbolized the 'womb.'
I'm like wtf? I didn't get that. stuff like this is driving me crazy....symbols and metaphors that i'm supposed to recognize?!?

meh lots of art films are like that, cr@p basically. forget about trying to make excuses for it, it just wasn't very good. sometimes these things are made from art fund subsidies or whatever from governments. add a splash of skin and on a low cost film you can make a profit.

The dreamers is made by academy award winning director bernardo bertolucci. He also made Last Tango in Paris which is somewhat similar thematically. He's made tons of films, including the Last Emperor. It's not a school project that got subsidized by sundance or anything. Don't make excuses for the film if you didn't like it. If it sucks it's because bertolucci's vision was not appealing, not because of some crazy government subsidy program.

eh, i didnt know it was him. the other films listed i did like, but this one sucked. but the truth is many films are subsidized esp in place slike france. artsy garbage is what they tend to turn out. strange example is uwe boll with all those horrible video game movies he makes, its to exploit a german tax loophole or something:p

Yeah but this was most likely not one of those films being that it was bertolucci. Just wanted you to have the appropriate amount of disdain for it.

I read ebert's review of the film. It sounds like the film is really a nostalgia piece for a time when people thought that sexual liberation would change the world for the better.

Now most americans are poor students of history so most people that didn't live through that time don't know much about the attitudes from back then. Honestly, a lot of movies can't really be appreciated except by people that lived through similar events. I'm not saying that I've lived through anything like what occurs in the dreamers (I haven't) and I haven't even seen the film (except for the naughty bits). I'm just saying it's impossible to "get" all films.
