I was working on assimilating some twenty 450mhz PIIIs here at school for the SETI cause.. and I finally got it to work on sunday night.. the client would only run when someone logged in.. so not 100% of the time.. still though, it's something.. I don't have admin priveledge on these machines so I couldn't install it as a service.. well.. the jig is up.. I wasn't here yesturday (monday) cause I was building a system for a freind.. I got here today and was informed by one of my superiors (I work here as a lab monitor) that I screwed up one of the machines... on monday morning, the class came in, and one of the machines wouldn't log out.. (I left em logged in as me all sunday night, to crack).. the machines automatically log into MAXQS (3DS max render farm) every night at 12:00.. The way that my coleague told me though, I thought that all of the machines were mucked up.. I found out later that it was only one.. nonetheless.. I've been warned.. cannot install seti anymore.. the machines are still cracking till thursday night though.. that's when the automated re-install will kill em all.. :( I tried.

Sorry to hear that, smp. Oh well, maybe you can convince the admin to allow you to install the client as a service? There's a very simple method to install and remove the service but you do need admin access.

Still, I don't understand how they say the SETI client screwed up the system. What exactly did they say it did?

Man, that sucks - there's nothing worse than losing a herd (been there, done that)... thanks for trying though!
