The Draft- Should I register? (In America)

Wikipedia states that
Certain male aliens residing in the U.S., including those present illegally, are also required to register if they are between 18 and 26 years of age. "Willful" failure or refusal to present oneself for registration is against the law

When I turn 18, should I register? I am an Indian Citizen. Not dual-national.

Depends if the War is worth fighting or not.
Just need to know incase I turn 18 and dont and the government jails me.
For example, I would never fight in the Iraq war, and I still dont feel much loyalty to the US. Only been 5 years here.

Interesting question. It's called "selective service" I believe so perhaps that can help you find some more info.

"Only" 5 years? Plan on staying?

In your case, it's worth asking someone from SS about it. I belive that every American citizen is required to register, but since you are Indian, and not dual, you may have some sort of exemption.

I did. Even though I hate the way the country's being led, it's still my country.

Oh, I really dont mind that much, going to war. Its not going to be as bad as WW1 with trench warfare, etc. nowadays.
What I do mind is the government arresting me if I dont sign up and I needed to.

You don't get to pick and choose.

For example, I would never fight in the Iraq war, and I still dont feel much loyalty to the US. Only been 5 years here.

Nobody is asking you to stay.

Theres no way around it. If you are going to live here, man up like the rest of us and sign up for it. If not then go back to where you came from.

I know I dont get to pick and choose.
I said, I dont mind fighting.
The question was. Do I have to or not sign up? Is it the law if I have to or not? Thats all. Not if I want to or not. Its the law and I have to do it. I would PREFER not to fight in a worthless war, but if its the law, I will fight. If I dont, I go to jail, and id rather be dead than in jail for the rest of my life.

Only way to be sure?

CONTACT Selective Service, and ask them.

Then, and only then, will you be sure.

I think it's important to note that there is currently no draft, so registering is no big deal

Do it. There's currently no draft and if you don't you register you could run into some problems down the road. Especially if you ever want to have a government job.

Its every male citizen.

I find it amazing that the supreme court have rejected challenges to the requirement. any male that wants federal aid. loans/grants is required to sign up for selective service. women are not even allowed to sign up for it.

as for the OP, your answer lies here

Ah yes, sorry about that.

I think it should be all citizens, but that's a debate for another day ;)
