The Disk In Drive D: Is Not Formatted, Do You Want To Format It Now ?

I just got my computer back from the store after they reformatted it. I have one partition on my maxtor 80 gig sata drive, C: for windows at 20 gigs and D: at 60 gigs. When I try and access D: It is says that the drive is not yet formatted, would I like to format it now ?

I've never done this I just want to make sure I get it right. I'm running windows xp and I know it has to be NTFS.

What should I put for allocation unit size ?
(default allocation size?)

If I just want it named "D:" do I leave the volume label blank ?

Should I check 'quick format' or 'enable compression'?

I would recomend leaving compression disabled, NTFS for WinXP is the best route to go. Drive label, you can just leave it blank, it'll just show up with a name as well as a leter in My Computer is u label it. If you want to combine the partitions look into getting the app Partition Magic. It can be rather useful.

Check the drive under control panel/administrative tools/computer management and click disk management under storage directory.

Use NTFS file system; default for allocation unit size and do not enable quick format or compression.

You can see everything you need to know about the drive in the computer management area and then you can just right click and format to get the window that you refer too. I prefer this as I can get more information about the drive partitions.
