the difference between the regular Audio In cable in a PC DVDROM and the CD SPDIF plug

i was installing my new soundblaster tonite and i noticed that the manual had something about this... my old Sound Card (Aureal A3d) didnt have a SPDIF plug in it and was using the regular Audio cable hookup

now my new soundblaster live has the SPDIF plug and so does my DVDRom ... is it worth my while going back and unscrewing the dvdrom drive to switch the plugs? is there a difference in the sound quality or something?

thanks

Yup. SPDIF is digital audio, if your SB Live! has a better DAC on it than your DVD drive (it will do), then you'll get better sound quality. HTH.

the diffrence is audable, it would be even more so with digital speakers. and I would hook up both connections. the cd-digital cable is a little diffrent than a regular cd-audio cable, it uses two leads, instead of three or four. It is worth the bother.
