I was watching Thomas Woods on Beck today...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXxNRNOjCM8
... and he spoke about the Depression of 1920, which many (including myself) had never heard of, likely, because it only lasted about one year.

Of course I had to dig up some more information. :D

And this from 2003...

And some even further reading from Rothbard...

Seeing how we are facing another economic crisis, I am surprised this has not been debated here before, at least to my knowledge.

What are you looking to debate?

there have been 6 depressions in the history of the untied states (you can argue 7, with the 70's stagflation), the great depression was the third worst.

also the recession of 1919/1920 was largely due to the aftermath of the spanish flu and the end of ww1. I've never heard it called a depression; depression usually refers to a longer period of depressed economic performance, and you do not have to be in a recession to be in depression. The great depression included at least two separate recessions.

Now go and read about the boom and bust cycles that made up the 1800's economy.

This will end up as a stagnation for most countries, nothing more.

People are just so scared that they wreck havoc on the market, i've seen it happen in three different countries in the early 90's and it did not end all that fucking well so just calm down for now.

This is the worst recession in the history of the WORLD.

We need to do something anything and we don't have time to think...... Obama is the man.

That is the Hoover spirit talking. Perhaps the hardest working of any US President in US history, who put in 20 hour days, but did not have anything in his conventional wisdom arsenal of ideas equal to the problem.

If Obama is the man then we are doomed. (Disclaimer--I voted for the guy because he was the less worse of two awful candidates.)

Are you saying its not the worst recession? I hope all your money is in cash right now and your 401k consists of money market funds.
