The days of cheap HD monitors are among us

yeah its amazing how cheap stuff is now.

i think the real shocker for me is that sometimes the acer 19" 1680x1050 monitor is $99. $99 for a 1680x1050 monitor.

that's a silly resolution for that size, though. 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT was pretty ridiculous for most things, that's gotta be about the same.

Umm where is that, I don't see it???

I actually need 1 for a client.

well it was at newegg i think expired may 12th... i'm sure itll come back again

its normally $119 i believe (i bought one at tiger direct actaully to get out of all the california taxes for that price, 1680x1050 on a 19" is fairly reasonable... a lot of laptops with 15" screens have that resolution) at newegg, amazon, etc all the usual suspects

Ok kool, cause i just ordered the 19" ASUS 1680 x 1050 for $109.99 and that was the best deal I could find, I can sell 19 montiors like hotcakes and make good money if i can find one for $100.00 shipped or less.

Yep. I tried a pair of Samsung 2233SWs and found everything a little too small. Went with a pair of 23.6" ASUS VH242Hs instead and even these have a slightly smaller dot pitch than say 19" 1280x1024 panels.

It's about the same number of pixels per inch as a 1680x1050 20". I've always thought it was silly to buy a 19" or 22" monitor that has the same resolution as a 20" monitor unless you have poor eyesight or need to sit farther away from the screen.

to each their own, i guess you guys just got better eyes than me (they're terrible). 1680x1050 on a 21" is nice, but i still enlarge browser text sometimes.

This is probably the Acer 19" LCD you're referring to (click this link).

If so, that appears to be a mistake from TD. The Acer manual lists it as 1440 x 900 on Page# 13 of this manual.

1680 x 1050 on a 19" Widescreen would probably be a bit hard on your eyes.

my friend has a laptop from like 4 years ago that could do 1440x900. It was only 14" That was hard to use

Nope, 19" @ Newegg. I bought one at $99, text is a little small but fine for me, and I like the screen real estate.

There are 2 versions actually. I have the 19" 1680x1050 one , its the acer x193wbd

the 1440x900 is the x193wb (no d). I guess maybe if you are older the smaller type is too small, i think its pretty ok , i guess that is why they make them at bigger sizes with same resolution

Also I actually had a 19" KDS flatron trininton that did 1600x1200 @ 75hz, and I used it at that all the time. (Had a 20" nanao monitor back in the day too with the same resolution as well)

The kds was actually something like 17.9" viewable, and a 19" lcd is 19" viewable, so thats actaully harder to read. 19" lcd with 1680x1050 is probably still larger dot pitch actually.

Why is it silly? I'm not sure if you're saying it's high or low. It's about what I'd expect?

I'm about 3' from my Samsung (25.5") @ 19x12 and I'm contemplating moving back to a 22" @ 16x10. I guess my eyesight really has gotten that bad over the past 2-3 years since I constantly have to adjust webpage fonts.

🙁

I've been staring at 1080p HDTV's for the last few years or at least 720p.. I think I've made the words bigger not had to bring up a font on a plus 37" tv..

I had a first gen Dell XPS 15" laptop that could do 1,920 x 1,200. It was almost painful at that resolution.

That res is fine for 22" s though, and this deal is very tempting.

I have a ThinkPad X301 with a 13.3" 1440 x 900 TFT. It's just fine (and my eyesight isn't the best). I think the 12.1" 1440 x 900 would be too small for me though.

Much of it is probably preference.

better act fast, it seems like 16:10 monitors are disappearing too.

Its all 16:9 it seems now (companies are just trying to cut costs, to share panel glass with TVs... sigh)
