"The data is invalid" when installing new drivers

I just bought an ATI-TV wonder for my w2k machine and now I am facing a (unresolved)problem that came up before with the video inputs on my geforce card. When windows tries to install the drivers, it finds matching drivers, but when it tries to install them, the wizard says it couldn't install the drivers becase "The data is invalid". This happens with both the video input devices on the geforce card and the tv wonder. I've found some newsgroup postings of people with the same problem, usually with a SB live card, but haven't seen any solutions.
The machine has an AK31 mobo, 1 SB Live, 1 MSI StarForce 822, 1 Linksys 10/100 card, and the TV Wonder card.
There aren't any mentions of this problem on microsoft's support pages, but some other issues in the knowledge base made me wonder if this problem was related to ACPI. I may have had ACPI disabled in the BIOS when I installed windows, but I pretty sure I didn't disable it until after I had installed W2K. I re-enabled it but still have the same problem.
Any tips? I really want to get this tv-card working under w2k, but I'd prefer not to have to re-install it to do it.

thanks,
Elliot
