Fantastic film, I highly highly recommend it.

If you're a fan of Wes's work then you will no doubt love this and appreciate all the cameos and classic Anderson comedy.

If you're not familiar, go into it with an open mind.

Saw it last night, it really is a great film. Fantastic soundtrack.

Very happy it was so good, I really did not enjoy the Life Aquatic as much as I wanted to.

I still like TLA more but they're vastly different films.

TLA is more plot driven with character development as a bonus and this film is much more character driven where the whole point of the film is character evolution and the settings/plot are really just there to further that.

I loved this film though, it's probably my 3rd favorite of his now.

Exactly, I think that's why I enjoy this film so much more, you have to admit Anderson has characters no other writer/director could come up with. This one ranks up there with Tenenbaums in my book.

Yeah for sure

I think Rushmore is still my favorite of his with TLA in second and this taking over Tenebaums for third.

I really don't care for Bottle Rocket at all.

He really hadn't come into his style yet and it just kind of went nowhere in my opinion. Rushmore was the first time where he really blew me away.

Bottle Rocket definitely isn't his style as we know it, but I like it just for being humorous in a more traditional way. Plus Kumar gets the most lines out of any of Anderson's movies I think...

Kumar: Man, I blew it. I blew it, man.
Anthony: Kumar, what were you doing in the freezer?
Kumar: I don't know, man, I lose my touch, man.
Dignan: Did you ever have a touch to lose, man?

Either of you guys who have seen it, did you watch Hotel Chevalier?

Fantastic use of color... just amazing... the last few minutes of it make the end of Darjeeling and put a lot of prespective on Schwartzman's character.

lol, I just came back to the computer to download it.

I swear I read it was supposed to show before Darjeeling in theaters though, pissed me off when I saw "go here watch Hotel Chevalier" before Darjeeling started.

I really want to see this...

If I get out of work early enough today I'm going to try and catch it with a friend who is also a big WA fan.

BTW... if you liked any of Wes' other films you'll like this one too.

I loved the score for this movie, and the quirks of the characters were great.

The Hotel Chevalier short was a nice touch, and really gives you more insight in to Schwartzman's character, especially at the end of Darjeeling.

This movie had no plot nor was it coherent. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Dialogue wasn't even funny. Owen Wilson's acting was horrendous.

How exactly was it not coherent? It was a story of 3 brothers trying to re-connect. It wasn't supposed to be a comedy. Its a drama with comedic undertones. And I, as with everyone else in this thread so far, thought it was really good.

The movie did have a plot, but was mostly character driven. The dialog wasn't supposed to be laugh out loud funny - mostly awkward humor, but for the most part wasn't really a comedy.

To each his own, I liked the movie a lot.

I thought that it was horrible. After TLA and this, I'll be more hesitant to watch Wes Anderson's next film.

To me, it had little plot, little character development, little anything. It was devoid of substance.

Hey it's back :D

JS80...
If you couldn't deduce a plot from the film then to be honest you really didn't even watch it or you didn't get it.
It was extremely obvious, even moreso than Anderson's typical style.

If you didn't like it that's one thing.. but to say it was one of the worst movie you've ever seen and that it had no plot is rather childish.

Did you fall asleep for the last 10 minutes of the movie?

Good, not great IMO. I find Wes Anderson's movies a little too affected and cutesy for my taste. Rushmore was the only one I really loved.

Nice name change!

Rushmore was great, I need to pick up a copy of that.

I saw it last night with the wife. We both really enjoyed it. She's Indian, so a lot of the things that happened on the train were humorous to both of us just due to the reality of Indian train travel. I also really enjoyed Jason Schwartzman's character. There's something about his manner of acting that I really enjoy.

Also, they did show Hotel Chevalier at the beginning. I was flabbergasted when Portman got naked. Not so much because she got naked (although both the wife and I were really surprised by it), but that I hadn't seen 20 threads on ATOT about it.

Overall, a good movie, especially if you enjoy Anderson's style.
