Hey guys,
I ordered a Geforce 6800 Ultra from PNY and received it last week. It came with stock speeds of 1.10GHz for the memory and a 400MHz core clock.

I also put in a Antec true power 480watt power supply with it also. Sometimes it will over clock to 440mhz and 1.12ghz memory with no problems, and sometimes I get lockups from going 10MHz over stock clock speeds on the core. There is also and "Auto Detect Overclock" feature Nvidia provides with their drivers. Using this, I get similar results. Sometimes It will pull it up to 1.11GHz on the memory and a 437 core clock, sometimes it wont even change the memory settings and go up to 415 or maybe 420 on the core clock.

So for you very smart people with voltages and BIOS settings etc... I am overclocking my A64 3200+ to 2.2ghz from 2.0ghz with Geil PC 4200 (DDR 533) Platinum memory. My CPU voltage is raised from stock 1.45v to 1.50v and my memory is raised to 2.70v from 2.6v (Running 2.5CL 3-3-6, Bank cycle time 11, Idle time 16). The only thing I havent touched is the AGP voltage in the bios setting.

Please let me jhave your thoughts on this guys. There is such amazing people on here and I am trying to find some overclocking stability, which I know many of you have found.

Also I have heard before that with any new video card it is wise to remove the heatsink and fan and re apply it with your own thermal grease and make sure everything is ok. Any thoughts on that as well?

Sorry for all the questions! Have a great day guys. System specs are below. Thanks in advance!!!!

BJK "Mr. NASCAR Racing 2003 Season"

Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2ghz), PNY Geforce 6800 Ultra, GeIL Ultra Platinum PC4200 533MHz (1024mb), Sound Blaster Audigy ZS, MSI K8 Neo Platinum Nforce 3 Motherboard, 200gb Western Digital 7200rpm HDD, DVD Burner, CD Burner, 480watt Antec True Power PSU, lots of 5500rpm case fans.

Ok, Your card is designed to run at 400 core and 1100 memory. There is no guarantee that you will be able to overclock even 1 Mhz on either. Ignore other people with their o/cing results because they don't have your card and you don't have their card.

Do not mess with BIOS or voltages unless your a rich man and can suffer the risk of damaging your card.

It is most UNwise to remove the factory heatsink and fan to apply your own thermal grease. This VOIDs your warranty as will any other thing you do with this card other than play games.

Most Important: You have a 6800ULTRA!!!!!!!!!! No need to o/c that beast.

My opinion.

I know this is not what you want to hear.

IMO it's pretty stupid to OC a 6800Ultra.

You won't get any gain in performance that you'll be able to notice in a game, and you'll be risking a very expensive piece of equipment. I guess if you have $500 to spare and your e-peenos needs that "clocked at 440/1150" in your signature, go nuts. I have better uses for $500, and that card runs pretty hot to start with.

Get an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer. It does such a better job of cooling at much lower noise levels. Cooler card = better overclocks = longer life = only $30.

ya you are stupid to overclock a $500 videocard,
but its OK to overclocked a $800+ cpu...

Too many guys asking for help in this forum...
too many guys offering thier opinion on overclocking, and not helping with the issue at hand,

Wether somone wants to OC or not is their own choice, not yours or mine.
Why not stop lecturing theses guys, and only respond if you can actually help them with thier problem?

....

that's particularily true with NR2k3. I got maybe 2 to 3 fps increase going to my 6800 ultra over a 9800xt at the same settings with a full field. in testing by myself the fps went up 100% to about 110-120 fps. be sure that the two power feeds are dedicated and aren't shared with anything else, including fans. i wound up selling my antec tp 480 and bought an ocz powerstream 520 that has two dedicated feeds. auto o/c results definitely improved during benching. i run at default of 425/1100 during gaming tho...
i've found that case temp has a WHOLE lot to do with it as well.
