Surprised I didn't see any mention of this.

I was impressed at how easily Noah slid into role, he fit very naturally and I think he's got a lot of potential. A number of the bits/lines you could definitely imagine Stewart delivering though (and a number of Noah's deliveries were almost jarringly... Stewartian?) but I think it's understandable this early on to play it somewhat safe.

I was also glad to see that it wasn't overly reliant on 'canned' bits. The John Boehner/Jon Stewart bit was clever and current. His interview with Hart wasn't bad either, I don't think Hart is a particularly interesting/entertaining person but the comic-to-comic discourse worked well enough.

Looking forward to see Noah's voice become more present over time. After one show I think it's in good hands.

I was never a fan of Jon Stewart ..big fan of Colbert though. I wish the new replacement the best of luck in his new role.

He's almost as pretty as Stephen Colbert. Is he black or something?

Forgot about it and missed the first ten minutes.

He's pretty good. Not as passionate about the issues as Jon, more about the comedy, which I like. It appears to be aimed at a broad audience relative to the Larry Wilmore show.

Have not watched the new host. I burned out on Jon Stewart. I like him and I thought the show was pretty funny, but I felt like after a while he treated a lot of issues as though it's obvious that there is only one right answer to them without giving much time to the other side.

I like Last Week Tonight With John Oliver because it tends to avoid U.S. left/right politics and instead focuses on other issues and international issues.

a comedian who delivers lines written by someone else.

jon stewart - whether you like him or not - has depth; he understands the issues, and the politics. trevor is a nobody. shame they probably won't kick him out for a couple years at least.

john oliver is funny but again, not that much of a political commentator.

Colbert is getting back into his groove of political commentary so that's a welcome relief. He had me scared at the the beginning that he was going to try to be a Fallon clone. Nothing is further from the truth.

I don't know about Noah yet. I think he probably has the chops to do a good job and I'll give him a few weeks to find his footing but last night wasn't very encouraging.

I laughed a bit at his first show. You could tell most of the writers were still from Stewart's Daily Show but that was fine.

There were a few bits that seemed more Trevor which suggests he'll make the show more his as time goes on.

My only real gripe was this:

That is not Kennedy Space Center/Cape Canaveral. That's Flight Control Room 1 at Houstons Johnson Space Center aka Mission Control for the ISS. :colbert:

Ya, I've noticed that Colbert's essentially going back to his old show, I think he even borrowed some old material from himself.

I'm still not with him on the guest list. Too many "serious" guests (i.e. CEOs, politicians, government officials). It sets it apart, but his first week really looked like he was trying too much to be another Fallon with the skits.

James Corden really chose well for his band leader. Not feeling it with Colbert's guy. Conan's band is okay, the rest... They have bands?

I dug Trevor's first show. What remains to be seen, for me, is how handles interviews with "serious" guests. That was actually my favorite part of Stewart's show for a long time.

You do know that Jon Stewart also read lines written by someone else...he had a team of writers as do all the other late night shows. Not saying he didn't understand politics or of course have a say in his lines, but really you have no idea how much Noah knows or doesn't know about politics and 'the issues'. He's a 'nobody' to YOU because you don't know him- I'm sure you would have said the same about Stewart when he first started.

I watched part of the episode and seemed like he was fine- probably will hit his stride after he gets some more experience.

amen. i felt exactly the same. what a relief seeing him get back to his original form.

ofc i will be watching the new daily show, at least for a while. but right now i think that guy was a bad choice... i would have gone with either one of the two primary sidekicks, jason jones or the black girl "senior black correspondent" (can't remember her name).

also..
jon stewart was good from The Jon Stewart Show; he's always had a political edge.
tell me again who is trevor noah?

He has some comedy specials you can find online if you look in the right places - wink, wink. I tried to watch one he did in S. Africa and I didn't get any of the jokes.

Yeah, that's the thing. When he needed to be, Stewart could do a very serious interview, a lot better than actual news programs do with their guests. Colbert could do that too (seems to be sliding back into it too, which is nice to see) It will be interesting to see how Noah handles it.

Really not surprised. I think he's had to spend a lot of time coming up with routines that will be funny to American audiences, since almost all of the South African jokes will go over the heads of anyone not South African.

Even the accents won't make sense.

He's very good though, I've seen him live once or twice.

Yeah, but I found Colbert to be "lacking" his first few episodes of his new show but now he seems to be settling in pretty well.

Larry Wilmore is HORRIBLE. He was funny with his side-bits on Daily Show. HORRIBLE on his own show.

The whole concept of bringing on complete retards to talk politics hurts my brain. Apparently it detects the stupidity and I can feel it starting to affect me so I quickly change the channel.
