Unlike the Emmys or Oscars, the TCA votes in just 11 categories. The result is a short, punchy and eclectic list of winners that typically have little in common with other award events.

Only television critics, for instance, would have conferred this year's prize for outstanding news and information programming to Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" ? vaulting it over rivals like PBS' "Frontline" and ABC's "Nightline."

It was a decision made on both merit and message. As my cross-town rival, Melanie McFarland of the Post-Intelligencer, said when presenting the award, at a time when the mainstream media seem cowed, Jon Stewart and company embody "a core of truth."

Sweet! One of the best shows ever. The only one that has the balls to point out the inconsistencies of the media and leadership.

I never miss it, one of my favorite show.

My recent favorite is the Philly gay segment.

What's funny(strange) is how the Daily Show is often as good a News source as serious News. Not that anyone should get their news from the Daily Show. ;)

Love John Stewart. I remember him commenting one time about how people have told him they only get their news from him. His response was, "NO! This is joke! You people shouldn't be doing that!"

Well, it seems like to me he makes fun of both sides equally and they have the occasional right wing guest like GWB's campaign manager.

I was watching it the other day and he was making fun of Kerry @ the photo op with him and Edwards and both their families. It was a riot as he was making fun of Kerry saying he was excited in his normal monotone voice, and making some sort of stupid joke about his little kid calling him or something that wasn't remotely funny.

:)

I'm fairly conservative (although I don't consider myself a Republican anymore), but I'm not insulted by anything on the Daily Show. So I guess it's fairly well balanced, IMO.

I'd say that they definitely skew towards liberal on social aspects (consider that their prime audience is 18-35), but are balanced when it comes to politicians.
