Now, here's the deal, does anyone agree with the cencoring done on this movie for the US ?
a part where the male actor explains how he learned to orally satisfy wimen so good (and no it's not about french kissing) was cencored out for the US market (and no it wasnt done by the producer to get a better aim at his target market, it was forced cencoring)

imho it goes in against free speech (here we can see it uncut (pun intended ;)), and it might get put back on the DVD in the US, but I doubt so)

Edit: Clarified title a bit.

Yeah, what movie? I can think of a couple of mainstream movies released here in the US where being a 'cunning linguist' was brought up. Course, they all came out before Asscroft was in office, so it's plausible I suppose...

Looked for that on IMDB and couldn't find it, or an alias starring Kidman.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

hmmh, well eh, lemme check my newspaper, I could scan it in for u guys but it's dutch, so I dont think you'd be much helped with it ;)

EDIT
manmanman, was I wrong, I need to read names more carefully, okay, here's the details:

the name of teh movie:
"in the cut"
starring:
Meg Ryan,
Mark Ruffalo,
Jennifer Jason Leigh

directed or sumething like that by:
Jane Campion

hehe appearently the problem was that he talked about the clit.

so it's not erotic scenes eh, it's talking, lets make that clear,
a blowjob scene has also been cut.

it's not a very good movie either seeing teh ratings there, but still it's the principle about it, why did he have to cut that stuff, it's not like he was trying to get it rated for ages 6 and below.

Any "censor"ing as you call it is done voluntarily by the movie studios. There is no government mandated or enforced censoring of any movie nor has there ever been. Congress has threatened the studios 3 times or so to enact legislation but each time the studio agreed to voluntarily control their work.

well I dont know, in the article they speak about "the cencors" wether or not they're gouvernment mandated or in-house is not told, so you say they are in-house (in the movie studios themselves) still, doesnt make it less stuipid.

Although you may think it's stupid the US was founded by Puritans and people very much like them. That puritanical view of the world still survives and is quite strong in america. Nudity and sexuality are extreme no-no's in american society and there are often very strong consumer backlashes against companies that are seen to engage in or promote sexuality in any shape or form.

In short it's a cultural difference.

If you need some tips, I suppose you'll just need to get a hold of a foreign release of the movie. ;)

As far as I know:

We don't really have censors employed by some government agency that cut movies up in the US. The MPAA is the association that gives movies ratings. So, when the film is submitted to the MPAA, they'll say it's an NC-17, R, PG-13, PG, or G. So, when it's rated NC-17 and the movie people don't want an NC-17 rating (since it wouldn't really play in many theaters then), the people associated with the film then cut out things until they feel it's ok and resubmit it and hope they get a new rating.

You don't have to get a rating to play in a theater, tons of movies are NR - no rating, but they're usually small, independent movies that play in more arthouse-type theaters.

So, it's not forced censoring. Even the movie studio can force the director or producer or whoever to cut some things due to nature of content, time, etc. It's their movie, financed by them. Are you trying to take away their rights to control their own product? :)

And chances are it will probably be added to the DVD's deleted scenes or director's cut or whatever :)

By the way, that movie bombed big time @ the box office, but I think it was a cheaply made movie :)

They cut some stuff to avoid an NC-17 rating, this is not forced, they are just trying to play to a wider audience. no big deal. They will probably release an NC-17 DVD, unless the director really is fine with the cuts.
