Can anyone tell me how the Nvidia 185.85 drivers passed WHQL so easily with so many people having problems with them ? All you have to do is have a search at google where you will see tons of pages. More than you can count or even want to.

Is Nvidia 185.85 drivers the worst release ever ?

People go on forums to complain when drivers don't work- when they do work you hear nothing, it's expected they do. So what you are left with is a disproportionate amount of negative opinions on driver X.

Also, people blame drivers even if it's a bad RAM stick, poor cooling, an unstable overclock or game bugs.

This. Vast majority of all video card driver problems are user error.

WHQL means something to some fanboys, that's about it. It is a meaningless process that MS uses to generate revenue. I've had WHQL raid drivers take out hard drives repeatedly(after all the data was gone the first time, figured couldn't lose anything trying it again :p) and have had too many betas to count that were rock solid. WHQL means nothing in terms of robustness, stability or pretty much anything for that matter. The installer works and it handles some basic functionality tests, that's about it.

They work great for me

2 PCs and 3 Nvidia GPUs

BFG10K also tested them and found some improvements over 182.08 in a few games; no issues :p

Yep, 185.85 have been good to me.

I got a plethora of performance gains over 182.xx, with three games in particular showing huge gains.

What is the most prominent issue? I am not willing to open the case of my work system to test out my GTX on different platforms, but I have been very satisfied with 185.85. Control panel loads slower than previous releases but that is not a deal breaker, obviously.

Issues resolved for me

; No lock-ups on 2D acceleration when application is in window'ed mode
; Clock transitions working properly after wake-up from S3
; "Smoother" game play
; Improved compatibility with DXVA on various codecs/splitters

I guess they really optimized it for 2560x1600. :D

I've used the 185.85 drivers on Windows 7 x64, Vista x64 and XP, and haven't noticed any problems on my 8800GTS320.

Thank you for bringing up the control panel issue! That is only one of the very long list of problems with 185.85.
