A few years ago I hopped on the Celery 300a/BH6 bandwagon. This combo has severed me very well running at 450 all this time with no problems. Back then this was the clear choice value when upgrading. Now its time once again (finally) to get a new mb/cpu. What do you think is the best value out there right now to get?

Here are my priorites:

1.) Kick butt gaming abillities
2.) anything not falling into #1

I do have a Geforce DDR that Im keeping in the new setup.

TBird with Asus or Epox KT133A for value.
Abit KT7A for tweaking and performance (Pretty good stability too)

I think he meant cheap

If not go for an MSI Pro2 which is like $112 and buy a Duron 600 or 700 which can easily overclock to 1000 with proper cooling.

Or you can opt for a Thunderbird, which have excellent value btw, instead. :)

Im not looking for the cheapest setup, jsut the best value/performance setup. I related it to the old 300a/bh6 setup a few years ago. Yeah, you could have had something a little faster but for double the price, it wasnt a wise buy.

Are the AMd's good with games now? I remember they used to lack in the fps department.

AMD no doubt.
All the mobo's out now seem to fairly equal now that Asus has sorted out the problems some people were having with the 1004 BIOS version.
I have an A7V myself and have been very happy with it, though others are saying exactly the same about Abit and MSI's offerings.

For the CPU, Id go with a TBird, the durons give more bang for the buck, but they're both so dirt cheap that it doesnt matter much unless you're really tight on cash.

Get a TBird 900 or 950 and OC it and you'll be set for relatively little money.

Can't the BH6 take a C2? If so than the best VALUE is clear, get a C2 and overclock to 850+. Spend the extra money on a GTS card and RAM (up to 256MB). Not a sexy answer but you did say VALUE.

lockness,

i had the same setup.... just recently i bought a PIII 700 to replace my celly300a.... just added some more life to the PC.

I decided it was better than shelling out the extra dough for a new mobo/cpu.
