This for me too. I think when it came out I had just started college. I remember my younger cousins getting into it and I was thinking wtf? Why aren't you outside riding your bikes or playing ball? Their response was taking the cards outside and playing on the driveway.

I loved Nintendo and Sega, but they were almost always 2nd option. Or else I'd play for a short time and then went outside to play. I would always rather be outside playing than glued to a tv. Although, I remember spending alot of my time riding my bike with friends to the local pizza joint to play Street Fighter, so go figure.

As an Army brat, we still had plenty of opportunity to go run the streets and come home when the street lights came on for dinner.

I don't remember being too upset when I screwed up and mom said, "Fine, no Nintendo for you!" because Metroid just wasn't that important. Granted, writing down those damn codes and plugging them in to continue was a pain in the ass, but playing football with the neighborhood kids was equally awesome for me growing up.

There are times when I want to slap my kids senseless when they're in the back of the car, on a cell phone or tablet and for no good fucking reason they say "Dad, I'm booooooored!!!"

I stop myself from saying things like "We used to count fucking VW Beetles we saw on long road trips and we liked it!" because it just gets me laughed at, then I have to pull the car over for no good reason and bogus threats of walking ensue...fuckers.

This JUST happened at a party I was at this weekend. All the "adults" were mingling and having a good time socializing. There were two teens there sitting next to each other on a couch and both had their faces smashed against their cell phones. Yeah, because the people on the other end of that phone are so much more interesting that the human sitting right next to you right now...WTF?!?!

So, as a good parent would do I sent my daughter a text message from across the room and told her to bring me the phone, LOL! I didn't want to lose my seat right next to the beer cooler.

Nope, I asked. The two never met before, so instead of meeting someone new (mine is 15 y.o., the other was 16), they decided to revert to sending text messages and using Instagram with people they already know that were minutes or hours away.
