Concerning the Jacque Jones trade rumors, Hendry said:
"Obviously, he had some tough times earlier in the year that he got through. I think the Cubs were very supportive of him, and I think a lot of people put unfair expectations on him. At the end of the day, Jacque Jones did exactly what we hoped he would when we signed him."
Funny, somehow I don't think expecting a player not to be picked off base numerous times in key situations is not unfair. Nor do I think not allowing a runner to score from second base on a sacrafice fly in a ninth inning giving up a ballgame is an unfair expectation. It's just too bad these kind of numbers don't factor into the player's stats...

Everytime the Cubs seem to have something going for them, they just shoot us down and remind us all why they haven't won the world series in 99 seasons. Hopefully Hendry's just putting on his game-face to dupe the other teams who may be interested in a trade. But there's certainly better ways to do that than to insult the fans intelligence in the process. Could be worse I suppose, the typical Dusty Baker move would be to say all those things in a defense to keep Jones on the team, and Baker would throw rasism into the equation to further insult the Cub fans. (I'm soooo glad Baker's gone, what a waste)
