WHOIS is more useful in the other direction -- phony information helps prove a site is unreliable, as does a record that matches another company that's known to be less than honest.

When filling out your domain info, you are urged to use your real info or else they can terminate you (haha) for providing false information. Many people do this anyway and have no worries after doing so. You can make up feasible false information and they'll still never know, as the primary contact information is typically just any valid email address you have access to. No need to provide street info, etc.

I definitely know that. The Question, is this information, information that many individuals or groups use in VERIFICATION, verifiable....besides the DNS server.

Eaxcatly my point. THere is not verification process besides the email. Assuming that has been comprimised, that only leaves the DNS servers for verification. Unless you want to try and contact Mr. ADministrator @ 555-5555

WHOIS helps me because I cross referenced 3 different WHOIS databases to determine if my domain was available. One out of three said it wasn't, so I registered it.
