Thanks to my fantastic parents I'm the proud owner of a Cowon D2. It's a fantastic touch screen device that has a great screen and the best sound quality I've heard since the early days of iRiver. The 5-band equalizer is fully customizable, with extra 'enhancement' which add a decent amount of punch to the bass without screwing with the rest of the sound. They have up to 16gig models available all well under $200 on amazon, and also have SDHC slots which so far supports up to 32gig SD cards.

Cowon D2 is definitely the next on my list for pmp. So much more bang for the buck than any other flash player on the market.

There's a few little UI quirks that take some getting used to, but it's still a great device. Some questionable control and interface questions tarnish an otherwise perfect mp3/video player.

i have a cowon/iaudio 7 which i like a lot...its like the D2 but more geared to music than movies (smaller screen, better battery life) its 16gb flash and its much nicer than ipod
plays all my music no probs (including flac/ogg/wma), has some nice options like increase play speed, has GREAT battery life (60 hours) and its durable

Just ordered the 8gb version from B&H. Been looking for a nice MP3/Video player. Went with B&H for the 2-year accidental damage plan vs amazons which doesn't cover accidental. I figure 8gb with the option of 16 more with an SD card will be more than enough.

Or 32gig w/ an SD, but those are still over $100 where as I just bought a 16gig SD for $30.

i had a question...if you add an SD card, is that a seperate storage? i mean when you plug it in, does it show up as 2 different volumes? one for the internal memory and another for the SD card.

It depends, for most people who browse via ID3 tags for artist, album, whatever it'll be one combined list and you'll never know what is internal or external. However there is also a folder browsing method where you can browse to the files you want just like it would be in explorer. In that case the 2 are separate root folders. When browsing video you can only browse via folder.

Yeah, while on the computer windows sees it as 2 separate flash drives: the mp3 player itself and the SD card. While on the D2 itself however it's one collective library (via ID3).

Still think it has fantastic sound quality and great battery life. I'm not a huge fan of converting every single video I want to use, but it's not that bad and I don't use it often.

There's a few quirks I've noticed after a lot of use that I don't like. One being that if you plug the D2 into the PC to tranfer music, once you start it back up it doesn't resume properly. Another is that the touch screen is just a PITA to use in the car.

All in all I still love it and I still think it's the best flash player out there for the price. Under $200 is a steal for a 16gig version of this.

I bought a 4gb D2 last June and replaced it with a 6th gen 120gb iPod Classic the first week of December.

I love the touch screen interface, lossless playback, LONG battery life (I could get about 15 hours of listening before battery level read 1/2), drag and drop, low cost, sd slot, etc.

About mid July, the up button no longer clicked when pressed. I contacted support, I sent it in, 2 weeks later I had it back and the button was like new. A week later, the button was hosed again. Back to support and no tunes for two more weeks. Second time back from support, the firmware was cleared, and the screen protector (the one included at purchase) was gone. Plus, the unit was placed incorrectly into the box so there was some plastic rub marks on the screen border. This is now late August.

A few times I had some trouble transferring more than a couple folders at the once. Literally I would have to drag 3 at a time or all the tags would be fooked when properly disconnected. This would happen whether moving to an 8gb SD card or the Cowon memory. All folders would have to be deleted, then the firmware reloaded. Not a major deal, but time consuming. I ended up not using the Cowon memory as much as it went back to support.

Was about to go to work in mid November and the screen has a geometric pattern on it. Support said to send it in again. 2 weeks later it is back and works fine. At this point I am fed up. 6 weeks at service is too much. MULTIPLE resets of the firmware. I must have bought a lemon.

When it came back that time, I sold it. 4gb D2, silicone skin, 8gb sd card for $80. I paid about $180 through Amazon for all of the separate pieces.

I was not happy with support overall. They forgot punctuation a lot of the time. I didn't know if they were asking a question or making a statement. I always left feedback for them. "Please work on grammar and puncuation. Thanks." Oh well. My iPod and I are very much in love.

I like my D2 so far after about a month. I have yet to charge it since the first charge, which is nice. I too hate the touch screen in the car. I would much rather the volume be forward and reverse instead. Having to tap the screen 3 times to change songs is lame.

You can do this. Go to settings>general>User defined button>Set Hold State and change it to FF/REV option. Now when your player is on hold, the + and - buttons are forward and reverse. When the hold is off, it's still volume.
