Eventually everyone in the UK will have their own personal police officer to follow them around all day to keep them out of trouble.

So they spent all that time and money cracking down on guns in the UK. Now instead of gun crimes and shootings the big problem is knife crimes and stabbings. What will be the next weapon of choice when they kick off another huge effort at cracking down on knives? What if they just beat people to death with their fists? Will they genetically alter fists so they are spongie and soft?

Silly England. They need to get smart and outlaw not only guns, but also knives and all edged and/or pointed weapons or tools, and any blunt instrument that could possibly injure, maim or kill someone. From now on, citizens should only be allowed to own a spork.

London != the UK.
Although it doesn't bode well, overall, thankfully there are areas that have pretty much no CCTV cameras, hardly any police, and relatively nice quiet communities.

I could kill you with this. ;)

A plastic one would work too, it would just take longer. :p

Which still does nothing to prevent the deaths by beatings. There was a case that finally went to trial recently where a group of teen-agers kicked a woman to death.

If i'm not mistaken, didn't Australia try to ban guns a while back and they saw violent crime skyrocket. It was only brought back under control once guns were allowed again?

British PM concedes gang-related gun and knife crime out of control, vows to crack down on knives.

Britain has become plagued by "out of control" yobs rampaging through our streets, Gordon Brown admitted yesterday.

The Prime Minister conceded that spiralling gang-related gun and knife crime had left millions of law-abiding people living in fear.

He now plans to unveil a fresh crime blitz next month. Measures expected are stiffer sentences with thugs spending longer in jail for being in gangs.

The PM, acknowledging the scale of the crisis for the first time, said: "There are issues we've got to deal with, where kids are out of control, where they're roaming the streets, where they're out late at night.

"There's a big issue - and there's an issue about gangs in Britain and there is an issue about gun crime as well as knife crime.

The rising tide of sickening violence sparked the Mirror's Reclaim Our Streets campaign and our demand for tougher sentences and weapons amnesties. Yesterday Mr Brown made clear he was considering such steps as he pledged to stop at nothing to stamp out the deadly blades menace.

He vowed: "We'll consider all measures to deal with knives.

"Six or seven per cent of violent crime is knife crime and it's completely unacceptable. We'll look again at a knives amnesty."

Mr Brown said police were already taking measures to tackle the crimewave, with more street stops and greater surveillance.

He said: "We are targeting hotspots where guns and knives are prevalent.

We're not only having more stop-and-search powers, we're also monitoring these areas as people go in and out.

"We will do everything we can to tackle knife crime in this country."

This movie was already erie when it came out; in the US, it sounded a little too much like the Patriot Act and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. Gun control is nothin'.

Where'd you get the info on knives? I carry a folder all the time. You just have to look up your local laws. They'll differ on fixed blades and folders.

Back to the UK, its a sad sign how their own citizens are afraid to defend themselves. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point over here in America.

EDIT: Foxery: Gun control is where it usually starts. Easy to take control when the citizens can't fight back.

You can own a gun, but the firing pin stays at the gun range, except for hunting, where the gun can't have a clip or be semi auto, IIRC. That's in NSW, at least.

doesn't stop crime either. their mugging/robbery rate is ridiculous. thugs know people aren't armed, they know adults won't intervene as they all think everything is the governments responsiblity. and so they have hysteria over hoodies and the thuggish youth blabbity blah

dude...
knives are legal in ca, where u get ur info. up to 3.5" or so is fine for a folder as long as its not spring loaded. longer is if ur hunting only...say on the way to a hunting area.
the size limit is lower at schools and public buildings of course.
but its not illegal at all.

In most CA cities knives under 3" are usually fine, some cities have no length limit, nor does the state.

perhaps I'm wrong (after seeing the many corrections from my opinion post). I just remember wanting to get a blade to carry on me and then not doing it because I looked up some laws about it, only to be disappointed. I guess I was probably mistaken.

Maybe I'll get a knife now.

were they singing "singing in the rain" at the same time?

the whole concept of banning weapons to lower crime does nothing. eventually youll have to ban people, since bad people will find a way to do bad things regardless of what is banned. how do you ban a blunt instrument, when you can rip off a kitchen table leg and make it a club to kill someone with?
