The book is awesome, but way too long to make into any movie. I think the latest movie was well done.

Book is fantastic - not yet seen the latest movie. Surprised it's not been made into a lavish TV series.

I read the entire, UBABRIDGED version - it was around 1200 pages and about 5"x8"x3" in w*L*h dimensions.

movie was good too, but the unabridged book was completely different.

heh, i have like 4 editions of the unabridged book.

dunno why, i latched onto a copy in grade school, and it's the only one that's ever retained the title of 'my favorite book'.

i've yet to see a worthy adaptation for film, though. I keep hoping, and keep getting disappointed.

I really need to dig my copy of the book up and re-read it.

I only have a vague recollection of it since I read it during a transatlantic flight where I consumed a rather large amount of the complementary red wine. The literature gods punished me quite severely as I later had the worst hangover ever + horrible jet lag.

ive enjoyed both versions. including the film/tv adaptions, regardless of how faithful they are to the novel. for example i really enjoyed the caviezel film, but besides the basic premise it strays far off the book. but the depardieu miniseries version was pretty damn accurate.

Loved the book...spent a nice long wnniter break one year reading all kinds of books and Count of Monte Cristo was one of the better books I read that winter.

I see a lot of people enjoyed the movie...but I didn't think it was that good at all. I dunno...I guess it bothered me that the story was so off from the book.
