Gut the voting rights act, and gut any attempts to control corruption through campaign finance reform. What could possibly go wrong?

With this court the only way to fix campaign finance is through a constitutional amendment. Which is essentially impossible at this point.

No one could possibly anticipate horrendous consequences from this...
Clarence Thomas was heard to cackle and run around the court yelling "Fuck America and everyone who dared to point out my shitty behavior, eat this turd sandwich"

Holy shit! Is it shortsightedness or willful destruction of our democracy? Money does not equal speech! How the f did we come to the conclusion that it did?
Oh, heck no, I'm sure this is exactly what the Founding Fathers intended. What could be more "free" than the freedom to pay off elected politicians to do your bidding, thus ensuring your representation after taxation?

No point to grassroots organizing now. Progressives need to start minting billionaires if they want to compete. But of course, the minute progressives get a bit of money, they start thinking like centrists.

Now you can spend unlimited amounts of money to put yourself in office and then have donors place that same cash directly back in your pocket while you occupy that office. No potential for corruption there!
Why wouldn't a corruptly appointed court majority not vote to support corrupt rulings? Moneyed people are the best supporters of insuring the system preserves the system that created them. In this way they insure the stagnation and death of society. It is why we have rulings like money is speech and corporations are people to preserve the status quo. Pretty sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know, just raising a point about the difficulty of real change.

The only sensible way out I can see is an informed electorate. Other than that I can only see system collapse as more likely than revolution. There are always those like Manchin and Silema who will take their thirty pieces of silver.

Who do you think is more dissatisfied with the political system, Biden of Sanders? Do you ever wonder if it matters whether a candidate is unelectable or if it makes no fundamental difference in who wins if the real issues the unelectable one runs on aren't on the table for the people to consider? It seems you have gotten to the point of recognition of the hopelessness of the situation but have you accepted the implications? Perhaps we should think about what they might be.

So bribing politicians in any form is now completely legal?
NO! Not at all. One must keep lawyers (fully employed) to make sure that:
1) The money paid to the politician totally isn't a bribe (legally speaking), still do have to follow certain rules about how and when you buy your politicians;
2) Plus two, you of course want to keep your purchase of the politician anonymous to the public, which is also totally legal as long as you follow the proper rules

Technically, still illegal to buy US politicians if you are a foreigner ~ but never fear, US lawyers have already solved this minor problem through lobbying for anonymous LLCs, and they can certainly make sure no one can follow the money to prove that you were bought by foreigners (hi Comrade Senator Paul), as tracking down or uncovering the actual source of the money (ownership of the LLC) is now in fact a crime in many states...

This case is a continuation of the same policy reiterated several times by this "conservative" court in the last two decades or so-which pretty much precludes shortsightedness. The current Supreme Court is extremely hostile towards the basic concept of democracy. I'm at a loss to understand what constitution they are purporting to interpret and enforce.
