Now, a i7-920 isn't excessively expensive, it's got roughly the same price as the similar-clocked Quad Q9400.

But, unfortunately you can't run the cpu on it's own, among the current breeds of mainboards the cheapest mainboard costs the same as the i7-920, and DDR3 is not cheap either... :(

Meaning, even a bare-bone upgrade cannibalizing gpu, hd and so on from my core2-E4400, will be roughly 8000 NOK, this should be roughly 1182 US$ or 940 ? or 751 £, atleast according to XE currency converter


So, if no-one wants to donate... :D

I hear you. I actually am planning to move my current rig over to my older case, get a new i7-920, X58, 6GB DDR3 1333, and a refurbed 9800GX2, and then retire my server.
