I think it goes without saying that austerity is a conservative policy.

Yeh, but first they have to set us up for it by destroying the govt's ability to collect & direct revenue in ways beneficial to the people. Can't afford that, military spending & debt maintenance at the same time so the little guy gets to take the hit so that the obscenely wealthy can become even more so.

Lol no not necessarily. Context is important. Government austerity during economic boom times can be smart policy, during recessions, no. Neither is liberal or conservative, it’s economic theory, in this particular case it’s Keynes economic theory. One might call it liberal because the left has latched on to the theory but that doesn’t make it liberal.

Heh. You don't understand. When you're rich enough, you're above the economy, diversified world wide in dozens of ways. Up, down or sideways, the state of the economy affects your lifestyle not in the slightest. Money is a competitive game & a power trip. The little people don't matter any more than you let them. Profit on the way up, sell short when it starts to fall down & scoop up bargains when it bottoms out. Govt just gets in the way of that boom bust cycle.

Iv'e seen Bernie interviewed and he does a good job of making his proposals sound moderate and unthreatening. But he’s not going to be portrayed that way. I’m sure Trump & Co are going to incite fear of a stock market collapse. If there are market drops that coincide with Bernie wins, they’ll make the most out of it. They’re going to try to scare Democrats with retirement accounts into staying home.

In a Bernie presidency...For Bernie to get much done, he would not merely need a Democratic majority in Congress. He would need a democratic socialist majority in Congress. He won't get that. Either executive orders or change the filibuster rules. Otherwise, everything is getting filibustered or outright ignored if an R majority.

You haven't been very honest here. Lower deficits don't take money out. They just put less in.

It's a combination of taxes and spending. I don't see why it matters to say "They put less in" vs. "They took money out".

It should be perfectly obvious that borrowing money from the Rich to give it back to them as tax cuts accomplishes a lot less than taking the tax money & spending it on domestic programs. Well, other than for the Rich.

Your reference to Krugman is dishonest. The situation in 2009 was entirely different than in 2017.

Krugman disagrees!

good politics is not necessarily the same as good economics though. sure things look great now, but what happens if there's another economic depression?

Not only does Krugman argue it helped the economy during Trump's term, he argues it helped Republicans stave off losses and enable the party to have a better chance at being reelected, so they can continue the party platform. Conservatives have successfully positioned the Democrats against their own agenda albeit they're less hawkish overall (whether that holds we'll see) than pre-Obama/Obama.

If your intent is to show everyone just how ignorant you are on the subject, please keep posting.

Btw, the guy you keep quoting, Paul krugman, is one of the largest proponents of Keynesian economics. So no only do you look foolish but you are quoting someone who agrees with me.

Lol

Lol @ who you quoted

Krugman went away from ClinTON surpluses. He's basically in the MMT camp now.

lol Trumpkin being a Trumpkin.

I seriously never realized it until recently. You and the Trumpkins are just mirrors of each other. Speedy routinely comes in here with editorials and videos of his people ‘destroying’ people.

I’ve been saying this since 2016.

Bernie Wins! Bernie Wins! DNC no longer colluding against Bernie, right?!

Not yet, anyway... the Party Machine has to let Bernie win a state or two until they start spending the big money on attack ads. Otherwise, it doesn't look like they gave him a sporting chance.

Nope, it already began. Both sides actually -- Club for Growth attacked him.

They said bad things about Bernie! Cheaters! So unfair! Blah-blah-blah. Reminds me of the Deep State bullshit from the Trumpsters. Which isn't to say that I approve but maybe y'all could back off from the maudlin self righteousness just a tad.

This is asymmetric, since the others don't have to contend with it for obvious reasons, though to be fair (OTOH, if they thought they could get away with it...) it looks like the Big Money Democrats are shying away from the effort. I do find it funny that the same people who would say this is nothing would be the same one's complaining about Bernie's criticism on Broom HIlda enabling "Crooked Hillary", which is a joke. Yet in the same breath will say Bernie isn't disadvantaged over establishment Democrats and their media darlings parroting Republican talking points.

I think it goes without saying that austerity is a conservative policy only during recessions and poor economic times.

So what? Hillary isn't running. And Bernie isn't exactly running red hot, either. He whupped Hillary in NH with 60% of the vote in 2016 & barely edged out the gay guy with 26% this time around. Go figure.

So what? A lot of you buy her grievance, yet the same isn't extended to Bernie supporters.

And I was being dishonest? This field is much larger than last time, so obviously he wasn't going to get 60%. The others aren't doing so hot either; Bernie is still the odds leader to majority/plurality as of present.

Just look at Europe or what our Republicans campaign on (e.g. Balanced-the-budget Kasich and Balanced Budget Amendment Ted).

Austerity in practice for our Republicans is weaponized Keynesian policy. And Democrats fecklessly play along in part because they're not that liberal to begin with.

Fucking the Poors is just GOP policy, good times or bad. God would grant them prosperity if only they were worthy.

I don't buy into it, other than to acknowledge that enough people bought into the slime attacks against her from Trump & his Russian friends so that Trump could win.
