***NEW: MOUSEOVER PICTURES: Comparisons of picmip, specular, bumpmap and texture quality per resolution

http://farmz.net/xtknight/cod2/ss/

If you don't see the specular images change, that's not a problem. The specular mipmap didn't seem to make a difference.

You have to mouseover the picmip # (0-3), leave your mouse there, and wait while that particular image loads.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First enable your console (it's in the Game Options).
Press tilde (~) to bring down the console, and type the following to switch to DirectX 7 mode (helps a lot for GeForce FX):

r_rendererPreference dx7
vid_restart

To show FPS:
cg_drawFps Simple (fps)
cg_drawFps Verbose (fps, other)
cg_drawFps Time (mspf)

Reduce mip map quality:

r_picmip range 0 (best) through 3 (worst)
vid_restart

Note: if these don't work, I found I had to set this variable first:
developer 1

More to come soon...perhaps with best quality/FPS ratio settings.
If you have any tips post below.

I have all settings cranked up as high as possible including some additional ones through rivatuner, was doing it for DOD S and I only get 30fps and as low as 23 in the extreme action

1680x1050
4AA
everything ultra high
trilinear mipmaps
SSTAA

Its smooth though but still

How do you get the timedemo to work? I typed it into the console (timedemo 1) hit enter, but nothing happened.

This is what I've figured out so far:

record demoname to start a demo.
stoprecord to stop it.
timedemo 1 to activate timedemo mode.
demo demoname to start demo.

Not sure how to get the results. I'll figure that out tomorrow.

Edit: some numbers in this file:

..\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2 Demo\Main\demos\timedemo_eldaba_mode_1280x1024.csv

Not quite sure of the format of the file though.

Doc excerpt from previous CoD:

Timedemos write a .csv file based on the map name and resolution that says how many milliseconds each frame took. This can be opened directly in a spreadsheet program for benchmarking performance over time.

Bump.

New picmip comparison added.

Any issues with the website I'll have to address tomorrow.
