go to your control panel and open the "sounds and multimedia" properties thing. you can turn off the clicking noise or change it to a new noise from there. If you change the Scheme to 'no sounds' it will turn off all those annoying sounds and beeps that nobody likes.

I would love to know what genius at MS decided that thing needed to be enabled by default starting with Win2K. It is one of the first things I go looking to disable after a fresh Win2k/Me/Xp install.

Why the hell would you want you computer to beep and ding and click all the time? It's annoying as hell. MS has some retarded people designing things.

no sounds for me.

I know, I always turn it off too. The only sound I like is the sound Outlook makes when new mail arrives. Lets me know if I have email when I'm in another room, or off doing something else by the computer.

I can't believe you guys are getting upset over a click.....big deal, you know. I leave the click on 'cause I'm too lazy to turn it off.

Funny thing is that with every release MS seems to add more stuff I need to go figure out how to disable. I do not want my folders to look like webpages, my desktop to look like a web page, big clunky folder and file icons with no details, pie charts of my disk space in every window, a new window for every folder I open, menu options hidden from me based on my usage patterns. Windows XP added a whole new chunk of things I had to go figure out how to disable. At least they default now to not open a new window for each folder.

<< i kinda like the clicking... lets me know that i had a successful link >>

hehehe... i guess with those connection problems you were having the other day, successful links might have been more special. ;)
i know its just a "click" but it still annoying, especially when its so easy to turn them off.

And i hate when i go over to peoples rooms and they dont turn off the sounds for AIM.. and everytime they send or recieve a message it makes that ringing noise, or the door slamming shut noise.
