The Chronicles of Riddick - I don't get the ending!

MichaelD

I watched it twice; last night and tonight. I liked the movie. Kinda Goth-ish like Hellraiser, kinda sci-fi, kinda kung fu...lotsa violence.

Oh...and Thandie Newton, the one who plays Kira...OMG...marriage, kids, whatever she wants!

Anyway, I don't get the ending.

He kills the Boss Necromonger, he's sitting on the throne, everyone kneels, etc. He says the "Necromonger Way" "You keep what you kill" and it ends. 😕

Does that mean he becomes the Lord Warrant (or whatever it's called)? The Wind Elemental chick was there and happy....what does it all mean?

he kills the leader, so he gets all what the leader has (ie, the leadership of the entire army)

ps: please write spoiler in title.

edit: as far i have read, it will be a triology

I felt unsatisfied by this ending. I really like this series and I WANT MORE.

I heard that they are waiting to see how rentals/dvd sales go for Chronicles before deciding to make the 3rd. Didn't do so well in the theatres.

I love it myself.

You are correct so far, he is the leader of the Necros. And his title is Lord Marshall not Lord Warrant.

I'm expecting a third movie as this in no way tied things up.

what I don't get is why everyone says that this is a prequel but if you pay attention it is a sequel.

spoiler, haha

Thanks! Glad to see I'm not the only one left out there!

I put a possible spoiler disclaimer in the title...sorry about that!

Who said it was a prequel? It isn't obviously, as Jack from Pitch Black is now grown up (and is now called Kira).

Escape from Butcher Bay (the video game) is a prequel to Pitch Black.

i figured that much😀 but everyone was ranting about chronicles being a prequel to pitch black.

I thought it was a pretty good popcorn movie on DVD. The Riddick Dark Fury animated film from Peter Chung (Aeon Flux, Animatrix) is also worth seeing.

My brother tells me the theatrical version was missing a number of the character development bits and so was much worse, probably why a lot of critics panned it (besides snobbery).

The ending was a bit abrupt, but made sense and set it up for a sequel. I'd definitely watch the sequel (on DVD) if they make it.

Terrible terrible movie.
i loved pitch black but how could you like this movie. huge plot gaps, terrible acting.

Which version did you watch? The director's cut DVD has a lot of material that was missing from the theatrical release.

That's what I purchased; the Director's Cut edition.

This type of movie is not SUPPOSED to be looked at under a Master's Degree In Theatrical Profession magnifying glass. You watch it for what it is.

I HATE the Fast & Furious movies; I blame those movies for every bad thing every Ricer Punk Kid has done in the past 5 years or so.

However, I really liked Pitch Black. In fact, I bought it on DVD long ago...before it became a "cult favorite" etc.

So obviously, I wanted to check out Riddick. 🙂 I'm learning a lot from this thread...keep talking. 🙂

$9 theatrical version 🙂

i wasnt doing so, but it still was terrible. i love sci fi/fantasy but ugh this was uncool.

I actually liked the movie. Interesting ending though; sucks that the chick died. Maybe he can bring her back in the sequel now that he has powers over the dead/half-dead/?

i just watched it . . . it isn't bad . . .. about the "quality" of Pitch Black. 😛

Same "gaps", same "acting" . .. both entertaining. 😉

HOWEVER, the PC version of THe Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher's Bay (Developer's Cut) is AWESOME . . . . everything the movie was not . . . plus you get to see the History of Riddick. Absolutely Top Notch Videogame and my choice for GotY (ahead of Hl2)!

Anyway, yeah, Riddick has replaced the Lord Marshall . . . . he is their leader and now there is a setup for the third movie . .. . .

in Order in Rididck's Universe:

1) Escape From Butcher Bay (game)
2) Pitch Plack (movie)
3) Chron of Riddick (movie)

You need to watch the director's cut. I thought it sucked too until a woman I work with let me borrow the director's cut DVD. It really fills in the gaps. So much so that I now have the DVD.

Fixed for you. The animted Dark Fury is a good 30-minute short by Peter Chung (Aeon Flux, Animatrix)

its too bad it didnt do well in theaters. Id love to have another big budget riddick film. i just re-watched pitch black and chronicles of riddick yesterday.

thanks . . . . i haven't seen the animated feature.

Anyway, the PC videogame The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher's Bay (Developer's Cut)
is better than HL2 (including GFX). 😉
