Only a DS... maybe just money. Its harder to choose things for me because I'm ahead of the game on my whole family.

If no one gets me a Wii then I'm going to get it myself. Can't think of anything else off hand...

P.S., for a great gift idea, I got this last year -- the greatest gift for even the occasional traveler is the Slingbox. I think I've done more advertising for this company than any other product I've ever owned -- thats because its awesome. Mine is setup at my parents' in Dallas, and I can watch their TV anywhere that has a broadband connection, I keep the software loaded on my laptop and USB key, and I'm hardly ever without one of those -- last night I was working late in the lab in Atlanta, and I was able to watch Louisville-Rutgers; get all of my out-of-market games of the Dallas sports teams and Texas A&M teams. The condo I'm living in is thinking of getting rid of their expanded basic cable in order to allow some to get an HDTV feed (which I think is an awful plan, but I'm only one vote) -- and if they do, I'll just Sling all of my TV- saving $50+/month. Of course, I hope you have multiple TVs, otherwise you can find yourself 'fighting' over the remote with someone far away, hehe!

I'm trying to come up with something indispensable like that this year but I haven't come across anything yet. It seems that I have every gadget that I would really like to use, and my computers are only a few months old, and its been a year since I played video games, and I have no desire to do that anymore.

My wife told me about that, that's a good idea. How much bandwidth does it use?

ditto

as much bandwidth as you feed it (upload), up to 1.5 mbps or so--maybe more for the newer HD box, I'm unsure. My parents have a 512kbps DSL line upstream, and after DSL overhead i stream video at about 420-430 from it. Picture looks perfect when I watch it from within the house at which it is about 1200kbps. As it is now, fast moving motion like basketball gets blurred sometimes (because basically the whole screen is refershing) but is still very watchable..news/drama etc displays perfectly. If I could find them a higher bandwidth upload option I would get have them get it, but alas not available yet..

if only they'd pay me :) hehe for some reason i feel like I should advertise for it, because its so awesome, and they definitely aren't an 'evil' corporation..whenever I pull out my laptop or use my USB key and start watching TV in public, I always get questions on it. Tonight after I got home from going out I watched the A&M game I TIVO'd (without having seen before)..blah is all I have to say...but the slingbox performed perfectly

I don't really want anything in particular...I've kinda tried to think of something I want, but nothing realistic really comes to mind.

Sure there's lots of stuff I'd love to have but none of it is even slightly practical (like a Porsche, or that $6000 seiko diver, or whatever).

World peace it is then lol

Well, I was gonna put a Zune on my list but I'm buying it tomorrow. So I'm putting a Slingbox on there. I also hope that I become a Zune Master (One of the college street marketers for the Zune) before New Years.

Got the gf a pink 4G iPod nano.

Getting my brother a case for his Zune he's getting and 2000 Microsoft Points.

Getting my mom a Wii (She actually wants one without me telling her about it!) and my dad....uhhh....not sure yet.....ideas?

Those are really nice fun gifts... What does dad like to do?

I saw these really cool electric chainshaw/clipper things by B&Decker on Amazon that I might get my dad to make cutting crap in the yard easier.

edit: Found the cool electric chainsaw clippers... uber safe and handy

He likes to fish...ALOT. But I know crap about it, I know he has a GPS but I don't think he has a range finder.

Perhaps a pair of nice polarized sunglasses for when on the water, if he doesn't have any already?
I don't know much about fishing :)

Hmm...as for me, now that I'm in the thread...

Lets see, I'll have to pick up some random seasons of TV shows...maybe I'll get the office or somesuch.

Who knows, maybe one of my family members will pick up on the hint and finally get me one of those good ~$100 soldering stations.

I'm gonna buy my mom/dad a Nintendo DS Lite with Brain Age and Sudoku because they are both addicted to Sudoku. I'm thinking of getting my sister a DS Lite as well along with a copy of bust-A-move because that was her favorite game on the SNES. hmmm... maybe a Wii for myself :D

I'm reviving this thread because I've not done any shopping for the sisters or mom, and I have no ideas.

I bought a Canon SD600 for the wife and some stuff from Victoria's Secret. The camera is a little more geeky than I'd normally go with the wife, but she needs it. Her digital Konica is teh suckage. We're also taking a little trip to Hong Kong for a few days, and I expect she'll pick out a few more things while we're there.

I bought this heart pendant for my good friend. She wears a lot of necklaces, and it was in my budget (I also had a discount code for Blue Nile :D).

I'm looking for ~$50 gifts for the sisters (they're around 30 years-old). Any ideas?
