choking game
I read an article previous to this one, where another child died as a result of "The Choking Game." Children, who don't engage in substance abuse but still want the same "high," literally choke themselves. By closing the artery allowing blood to the brain, they slip into momentary unconsciousness and when the pressure is release and blood allowed back to the brain, they experience the light-headedness associated with a "high." I assume there's also adrenalin and endorphines when you recover from near death as well. But this is in the "best case." The stories we hear about this "game" are the ones where the child does not release the pressure in time... causing death.
So parents, be aware of this. And if we see a rope, belt, or other object that can possible be used to aphixiate oneself lying around often, especially when your child does not wear a belt, make them aware of the danger!
