Will an ATI x300 128mv pci-e card handle Counter-Strike 1.6 @1600x1200??? What would the FPS be?

I can't afford a video card at the moment. It will be installed onto an Asus a8n-sli premium with an opty 175 and corsair value 2x512mb ram.

P.S. What would be the best choice card for CS:Source til I hold out for the dx10 cards?

Thank you!!!

according to this, you can expect a blazing 14.1fps at 1600x1200. however, drop the resolution to 1024x768 and you break 30fps...

Thank you very much Brikis for your blazing fast respones

Next question is - what is the best value pci-e video card I can get that will hold me down til dx10 cards hit the $100-150 mark? I'm really low on cash now and I'm ordering from Newegg today.

It can range from $20 - $150. I'm hella broke right now and I run native 1600x1200.

Thank you for any replies.

LOL! Of course you can handle CS 1.6 at that resolution! I mean, 1.6 isn't even demanding! So knock yourself out!

X800, X850 series

1600 yes, but no AA (possible, but i would not) :)

Everything under 1600 resolution: AA (antialiasing)x4 AF(aniso)x16 runs GREAT on my X850 with hl2:source engine CSS loves those cards, still.
My standard gaming reso w/ 4xAA and 16xAF is 1340/1024 - 1280/1024 if i cant set this.

If you can find a deal on a pcie X850 or similiar..what is your budget ? hold on a sec...

OMG..i see on my site (sorry, i am NOT spamming) a X850XT Platinum for $129 (NEW !)...3 years warranty and dual DVI (no box, but card is new)...this is a fricking steal if you're looking for a solid card and dont care about DX10 or PS3.0

Why is that a steal? It only matches a 7600 GT performance wise and lacks the features

what features ? i <3 my X850XT :)

ok, here it comes down the GT has a 128bit bus and the X850XT 256bit, but the GT has PS3.0 shaders for what it's worth.

comparison:

The X850XT PE will be faster in most cases no doubt and in some cases *a lot* faster then the 7600GT. As for the SM2b vs SM3 debate its not that big an issue at the moment although may effect reselling value of the card further down the line (although imo thats unlikely).

shadow, please look at his budget ! you say "only",,what woukld you get for MAX $150 ? I think a X850XT PE (or a 7600GT even) for under $130 or so would be good thing..ESPECIALLY since he mentioned CSS and the ATI cards love source-engine.

thats probably the best deal.

i have em for $75, refurb. Powercolor. I guess free shipping since it's over $25 but not sure if they have super-safer on refurbs. Problem with ebay is some people rip you off...no use if someone sells a $50 x800 and wants $50 s/h :)

add: i still would take a X850XT over a X800...depends how much he wants to spend.

ATI themselves is offering a whitebox X800 (16-pipelines) PCI-E 256MB for $80 here. It's Crossfire-capable too.

Cheapest PCI-E X800 card that I know of at this time.
