The chant "overrated" at sports events

say your unranked team upsets the number one or highly ranked team in the nation at your home.
near the end of the game the home crowd chants 'overrated, overrated'

in my mind does that not somehow lessen the value the upset victory?
what that essentially says is that Stanford wasnt the #1 team that your team beat; its that they are overrated?
take the upset victory and revel in it. chanting 'overrated' just seems to lessen the magnitude of the upset.
if anything i think the crowds should chant "underrated".

Well, look at it this way, you can still tell yourself that OU won every football game it played last year... that is, when the game didnt have the word "Championship" associated with it.

i guess you can tell yourself that its going to be another 30 years before ohio state plays for or wins another national championship also.

what does this thread have to do with OU or any team in general.

This thread has nothing to do with Oklahoma, or Ohio State. I Just brought up "Oklahomo" and "O-S-Who" to raz gis. You = pwned.

Yeah I never understood the overrated chant either, but you wouldn't want to chant underrated...

I thought I heard some "over-rated" chanting during the end of the KSU-OU game, I know you are an OU fan, and I just figured you were complaining about that. Frankly when a football team comes in as the #1 team in the nation, its fans are calling it the "team of destiny", in their minds the other team has already lost before kick off, and the underdog beats them like a little red-headed stepchild, then yeah, you are going to hear the "over-rated" chant. "Under-rated" doesn't have the same amount of "oomph" to it. The fans of the underdog already believed their team was good, they know their team is about to go up in the rankings, and they're just celebrating it.

Now, on an abstract, intellectual level, you are correct. But if you are looking for a "sport" where the fans operate on an abstract, intellectual level while watching the games... learn to like chess.

I just saw OU in the thread so I just have to post:

Yeah LSU baby, Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀

Its never over in South Louisiana.......

Coach Saban just agreed to his new contract through 2010:Q
Now he makes 2.3 mill/year
It bumps up every year so if he actuallly stayed at LSU through 2010 he would take home 3 million in the last year of his contract....😀
