The Change of Culture

arcenite

Lifer
Greetings all, I do not write too many serious threads around here, but I feel it is necessary for me to do this. I have decided to write a little about our new culture around here. History teaches us that change is usually good for the long run. The American Revolution, for example. Change is for the better. Well recently (read: after the "change in culture") there has been more complaining about moderator behaviour than ever before. It feels kind of like France under the reign of Louis XIV (an absolute monarchy for those of you who don't know). A thread has been on the boards for a little bit now concerning the timing of one's realization of sexuality. The thread had raised a legitimate question I had, so I started a new thread. Not a minute later the thread was locked. I PMed the moderator and after waiting ~45 mins had decided I was not going to get a response. I asked a well known member of this community if the question had in anyway offended him and before clicking the thread he was not surprised that I had done something that would offend him or the rest of the community. After reading the thread, he could not give me any reason why the thread should have been locked. I realize this means nothing to the mods, but I thought this was a community. A community of people who are free to ask questions about anything (especially in off-topic [within reason]) and not have to worry about getting your thread locked. As I am typing this, the thread that originally sparked my question is now going on comparing different types of anal lube. While I am not particularly offended by this, my thread was much less harmless.

While I am not writing this in attempt to get banned, I would not be surprised if I did. My only intent is to express my feelings (which SHOULD be allowed here, but I guess it is kind of like bashing the King). I love these forums and will probably find myself lurking around here, but I just find myself taken back by the lack of responsibility of the moderators. I can sort-of understand locking a thread no matter what the content, though when I PM a mod asking for an explanation, they can atleast give me a one-liner.

It is a damn shame. I have come across a few real nice mods here during my stay. One of which (is anonymous to me) is the only reason I am still posting here today. I would like to formally apologize to GeekBabe for what I said (a year+ ago?). You may not even remember, heck you may not even have been the one that banned me for it, but it was still wrong of me to say. Anyone else who I may have offended unintentionally I sincerely apologize (except for you SampSon 😛).

May the Nef be with you,
Bill

possibly one problem is that the moderators are not part of the community they are moderating. they seem somewhat contemptuous of the community they are moderating.

That does seem to be the general trend. I contacted the mods with my opinion on the issue back when it came up by PM (though never got a real response (as expected)).

sex threads went out with the old culture, i thought.

and you thread title was too close to the gay thread to be taken as anything other than a parody.

if a mod did not answer your PM, it is probably because no one is logged onto that account... or they do not believe that your other thread is not a parody.

i agree and disagree with the mods on that one.

while your post may have been fine, the posts that come after it would have turned downhill quickly, as you mentioned with the anal lube...a lot of the people on this forum can't act maturely in the right situation.

i was banned without warning for 1 week for saying something that had been said hundreds of times before without any kind of warning or ban. the mods would not explain their actions. to this day i still find posts with the same comment i made without any warning or ban from the mods.

so now its like i'm afraid of what i say. i'm probably going too far in typing this out.
