The cd/dvd drive is not working.

The disc is not spinning. Was watching a movie and it just stopped working. Im trying to play it on windows media player and i dont know if its software but i highly dout it because the default player is not seeing a disc. The lights on the drive face is blinking for a few secconds like it might start reading it but then stops.

EDIT:
it is a Del laptop.

how many discs have you tried? How old is the drive? If it's just the one disc, it might scratched or something.

I think you answered your own question. A few monthes old... Go to the Dell web site e-mail tech support and tell them nicely what you have already tried to get the drive working and what the out come of each attempt was... They will send you a new replacement drive and a prepaid shipping label to have the shipper pick up the old drive in the box the new one came in... Bingo.

I have the same problem with a year and a half old Inspiron 5100 Notebook about a month ago, received the new drive two days after my e-mail. great service!

One of my friend's DVD drive on her laptop had a similar problem..having difficaulty reading anything, and it spins.

I figure that if everything (spins, recognized by the system) check out then it must be a dirty lens. I opened the DVD tray, hold it in the air and lightly smack it a few times.

A lot of dust came out of the thing and now it works just fine.

sorry, the not spinning part just skipped my mind
