I took this photo on Saturday night at a campground where they were doing a presentation on a screech owl. Obviously, the photo is not what I was looking to get, but the effect was interesting.

It looks like you can see right through the bird! How is this even possible???

Looks like plain old lens flair from the back lighting and underexposure.

Nokia Lumia 920
f/2
1/1929 shutter speed
iso-100
flash, but no flash return data (meaning your flash was probably very insufficient)

Yeah, major underexposure and back lighting is making the owl, handler and some of the trees look "translucent," but it's just streaks of glare and lens flair.

Um.. Almost dead center in the photo? Its an owl, and its sitting on the guys hand... (It just looks translucent...)

OK - I guess it is that thing that looks like a vertical vegetable penile implant. I thought it was a silo or something. :)

Yeah - the effect is lens flare and backlight wrap around caused by excessive backlighting.

OP, I think you should call JJ Abrams - that lens flare effect could get you an assistant DP job with his team! :p
