Thanks OP for showing your craft begining to end. Nice job!

Question. Since the encasement is off the PSU is there any problem with lack of EMI shielding?

I had a PSU open and turned-on, i just happened to brush one of the HSs with the edge of my hand. The sucker was charged! Just a tingel, but it got my full attention. lol.

I have to ask. Is the gutted muffler quiet?

Of all the clever uses for old mufflers, this is definitly the most random! Nice work :)

Its not what Id call impressive from a PC or functionality standpoint. Im still of the belief that flashy cases and LED's are money not spent on what matters.

BUT damn, thats interesting. Must have taken a long time with quite a lot of patience and TLC, not to mention the skill.

Now what would REALLY impress me, make me laugh AND be rather functional is if you sorted it out, hooked it onto a working car, used it as some sort of Carputer.

That would be rather strange, innovative, pointless in the end but it does show that even older technology can be fun to play around with.

the heat down there would be dreadful, even if you didnt have it hooked up to the exhaust system.

Nice job with this project!

Well, yeah.... I didnt bother engaging the logic part of my brain there... I just used the 'wow, that'd be SOOO cool' part. Theres just something cool about making it look like something and putting it in the place where such an object is expected to be... then amazing people by showing them that its not what they expected.

well there appears to be no problem with EMI or anything, its real quiet:) I am using it right now, it doesnt overheat or even come close...cpu stays at 31C even fully loaded...It is not quite finished yet, waiting on the mesh cover to get back from paint, but I like flashy lights:p, that being said, I was wanting some WOW factor and I felt the lights would give that, I also have a couple bright red LED case fans that are not here yet. one will go on the rear and the other I havent decided yet, as far as functionality goes, it does everything you would expect a computer to do...with the exception of heavy gaming, it has the nvidia 6100 onboard grapghics and does a fair job at light to medium gaming...it took about 5 weeks to get to this point, as far as hours go about 100 or so right now....It is a new muffler, the internals are a AMD Sempron64 2800+, 1 gig of PC3200 DDR, 60 gig maxtor hard drive, benq 16X DL DVD-RW, Asrock K8NF4G-SATA II motherboard, and of course the lights and UV yellow cables:) The hardest part was getting the motherboard tray in the right place with the I/O cutout, The internal metal parts were mig welded into place, and the DVD support in front was mig welded as well...Thanks for the comments, My next project is puting a computer into a Truck Battery!

Hmm, one thing i can't see is where you get the monitor attached to the video card. Does the card leave enough space for you to just run the cable through the hole in the back of the case?

the motherboard has the onboard nvidia6100 video chip, hooks up next to the 1 serial port just under the printer port:)

I love it.
But I see two problems with it....PSU shielding, and expansion cards.
Plus I would have used an hsf that take the air from the front and exhausts it at the back. Wih an hsf like that with the fan on the top it does not have much place to take the air.

ther is no need for expansion cards as the motherboard has everything needed onboard and second, airflow is not a problem, nor is the open PSU there is a fan in front of the PSU blowing air over it and I have a fan coming in for the rear opening to draw air out, plus the top is going to be covered in mesh...I had this running for about a week before it went to paint and the temps were great, never above 31C for the cpu, even when loaded!, stable as hell, ran prime 95 for 31 hours.....even when burning DVD'S its stays under 31C....If I needed anything like a floppy or a 56K modem, I would just use an external one...

Great job! This is more interesting than yet another modded computer case or cabling job that seems to be the recent staple around here - including for myself.

Ugh, damn. This page is slow? How much graphics do you have? I'll host you on my site if you want...

Still waiting to see it... Man this is an awesome project.

How is the speed of the machine. Thinking of using that exact parts list for my in-laws.

the speed is very good, its not much slower than my athlon64 3000+ the only thing is the graphics are ok, not super but ok...better than the sis or intel integrated graphics, if you use this for them I am sure you will get a much better video card, espcially since it supports PCI express...
