The Cars - Shake it Up

Man, I'm listening to some 80's stations on Shoutcast... I can't make my mind up if I like the music, or if I'm just amused by it 😀 Does anyone listen to 80's music for the music itself, or just for the nostalgia?

Boston's self-titled debut album is one of the all-time greatest records ever released. Tom Sholtz' pioneering sound is often copied by today's guitarists. You want harmony? Boston's got it in spades.

80's music rocks, man. That was MY era. My heyday. First car, first lay, first beer...first everything was in the 80's. Is there any other time? 😀

The 2-disc Cars Anthology set is excellent. Sonically, very good. Neat liner notes too. All the hits and then some.

Cool thread.

Um, hello, The Police ... it's not nostalgia, the music holds up very, very well.

This about it. The late 70's and early 80's were some of the most creative popluar music times, to date. When things fell of in around 87, there was a dry spell that some might argue is still going on. How on earth could you justify a drab album like thiswinning any type of award. It's simple, it was a very dim and mediocre light in the midst of a blackout.

I almost exclusively listen to 80's - 90's Alternative. Smiths, REM, 808 State, Happy Mondays, The Cure. I never really got into that top 40 crap.

Boston's first, and I believe second album came out in the seventies.

Not trying to nit pick or nuffin.

I only know them for "More than a Feeling" 😀
Hell all their songs sound the same. Typical Chick Music. Most over rated band of all time.

actually the most overrated band of all time has to be Dave Mathews Band

Um, I won't disagree, but Nirvana has to be right up there.

My first music choice comes from the '70s. Much more serious lyrics, arangements and instrument skills. But, I do very much like quite a bit of music from the early '80s. Didn't care for Wham, Duran Duran or any disco that carried over into the '80s.

REO Speedwagon and The Police came out in the '70s, as did the bulk of Slammy1's list. The '80s groups and artists were a lot more upbeat and very musical. Lots of original stuff, which I really appreciate. Ones I liked included:There are quite a few more '70s groups who spanned the '80s, but the ones listed had their big hits during the '80s. Heh, a few one hit wonders in there, but I like them just as much as any.
