Speed limiters have been around for a very long time. Back in the early 90's a ton of delivery trucks have them installed, UPS, bread trucks, etc.

Haven't some rental car companies either implemented or announced plans to implement similar devices?

or how about that device that sends a report to car rental companies when you do actually speed, they send it to the police (or something to that extent) and you get a ticket.

ok but on passenger cars? I think legally there isn't much one could do since on public roads, the speed limit is the law. You don't have the right to break the law. Realistically though it sucks.

No one in socal drives the speed limit on the freeway when it's clear. I once purposely tried to drive exactly the speed limit while on the freeway and it was quite a terrifying experience, lots of people cutting you off because you are driving too slow for their taste.

I will never buy a car equipped with this sort of thing.

Well. . . my current car does have a speed limiter, but it's at 110 mph. . . Not that I'd know about that. . .

i have a lead foot. I'd be interested in something like this for a daily driver, but not for my weekend cars.

BTW...my explorer tops out @ 116mph before the front two cylinders shut down, and my jaguar comfortably drives @ 120 mph (didn't go faster in fear of death!!)
