That's not bad at all. If you look closely there are all manner of bugs crawling all over that stuff

it wasnt free, the DReb kit costs more than the body alone because the kit has the 18-55 lens. But you're right, it is a good value.

I sold mine awhile back, now all my glass is 2.8 or faster :D

Thanks, you were right it's 18-55

Crop

If people really want to see it, I can post the whole image. I fussed with contrast etc since it seemed a bit dark. I can do the unaltered image.

For comparisons sake, you can check out these test shots/100% crops.

Taken with a EOS-20D and Tamron 28-75 F2.8:

(Keep in mind, the shots are taken wide open at F2.8. This lens is at its worst at F2.8, and it's only a slightly-above-average copy.)

My test shots have nothing to do with taking good pictures. They have everything to do with lens evaluation. Testing automatic focus, sharpness wide open, etc.

In terms of Tamron 28-75 F2.8 lenses, my copy gets 7 out of 10 stars I'd say. I just need to decide whether to send it back.

I beg to differ but then all of my lenses are "L" lenses. The most annoying trait of the 18-55mm is that it produces alot of purple fringing in bright reflections.

Do you have a 24-70L?

Not bad does not mean it's an L lens. Considering what it costs, it's not a bad performer. If I was doing serious shooting, I have a nice Canon macro that would do a better job. I was just goofing.

BTW, it's not dial up friendly

the only thing going for the lense is 18-24 range ...its an ok lense but certainly nothing to right home about. 3.5 minimum makes it pretty impossible for unassisted indoor use.

take a look at the 50mm 1.8 mark 2, for only 75 bucks its probably the best lense for the cost you could buy.

It's the wide angle I need it for right now. I have a 28-135 IS USM I can use, but 28 isn't so wide on a 20D. Of course I can buy a wide angle lens, but considering I dropped the better part of 2k, that's going to wait a bit ;)

I took this with the 18-55 kit lens. Cropped and reduced for dial-up. I've always thought it was pretty decent for closeups under the right conditions. I'd still like to get something in the f/2.8 range though.

Hope you're not allergic.

Doubly sweet since it was free :D

it's so so - a lot of barrel distortion and blurring when shooting in the boundaries of the zoom range

Yep. I got the Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200mm F/2.8L IS, Canon 85mm F/1.2L, Canon 35mm F/1.4L, Canon 16-35mm F/2.8 and Canon 15mm fisheye. :)

I recommend the Canon 28-105mm MKII lens for a cheap lens. Much less PF than kit lens. Nice size also. But if it was free, yeah, I wouldn't complain about it

AmdInside, I noticed you have the Canon 70-200mm F/2.8L IS. I've been saving up to get one. I have to take a lot of shots at night football games and I thought it would be perfect for that. Well, 300mm would probably be better, but I definitely can't afford that. I'm usually on the field taking the pics, do you think the 200 with the 2.8 would work well for the lighting, distance, and action?

In the end , I hope my camera bag consists of the following:

Canon EFS 10-22 USM
Tamron 28-75 F2.8 (will maybe replace this with the Canon 24-70L)
Canon EF 70-200 F2.8L IS
Sigma 30 F1.4

Those are some sweet lenses. I think my next one will be the Sigma 30 f1.4. I bought the Canon 50 f1.4 just a little while before the Sigma was announced. I would have gotten the Sigma instead had I known. The 50mm focal length is just a bit too long for what I need.
