The Canadian Passport website is absolutely terrible

I've been trying to use the on-line application to get a new passport and I can't finish it because all you get are server busy errors. It's been like this ALL DAY.

Sure all websites experience heavy load at times, but this is stupid. I cannot understand how a government website that deals with getting people one of the most important documents their citizens can have be completely unable to provide a server that can handle periods of increased activity.

Thank god I'm trying to get this done early.

90% of what governments do is manage information. What happens if any government was actually to put the control of most of the information in the hands of it's people? I forsee terrible things like thousands of beaurocrats suddenly having to earn a living. The carnage would be unimaginable. 🙂

You should try to renew a Canadian passport while living in the USA. I had to get info from some professional, my vet in this case. She had to give her home address and sign the back of pics and a bunch of other weird stuff. Didn't take them long to get it back to me though.

EDIT: I guess they make everyone do that now. Odd.

Sounds encouraging, I just came back a couple of days ago from Canada to get my picture taken (didn't want to take any chances with the pictures) and will be filling out the application soon.

Does anyone know if the passport restriction applies to travel over land?

They overnight the passport back to you.

On the travel restrictions.

The current implementation schedule is as follows:

Beginning December 31, 2006, the rules will apply to all individuals traveling to the United States by AIR and SEA; and

As of December 31, 2007, they will apply to all individuals entering the U.S. via its LAND border crossings.

My dad just finished applying for his... it didn't take him long to do it, but the passport offices are within walking distance of my house. And the gov. site is usually like that...

i'm doing it right now and it's working great.

epass is always a bit wonky though, takes a while to get used to

If you're filling out the application on-line I'm interested to know why it's working for you. I cannot access part 3 "addresses and work history" and part 5 "supporting identification".

nevermind... i'm trying to add some previous addresses and it's all
