Good. It was a political ploy on Davis' part to try and get votes against the recall, from the legal Latino community. Davis had vetoed the bill TWICE before even when it had more stringent security guidlines. It was one of the most obvious political ploys in California History.

Illegal Immigration as a whole is wrong. California Buisness owners have been exploting them because they accept cheap wages. Being as they are undocumented, they pay no income tax, and very little in sales tax because of the poor wages. I dont buy the argument that they do jobs, that others wont do. I would also be happy to pay higher prices for certain things, if I knew my money was going to pay Legal Citizens.

I can't believe such a law was even conjured up for a vote. As an immigrant myself, i find this a little disturbing. I live in the city and Im sure the out of work people here would love to have the opportunity to do jobs that "others" wouldn't do. Gov. Davis sounds like such a scumbag.

This is good news. That was clearly a political ploy, a dangerous one at that, to win votes for the recall for reasons stated above. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief that it is over with.

I am sick and tired of hearing the argument that Illegals do jobs that Citizens wouldnt do. Its an excuse, and wrong one at that, to try and justify illegal immigration.

California has definitely gone in the wrong direction on a one way street. Most CITIZENS shouldn't have drivers licenses, so why would we give them willy-nilly to illegal aliens? Now, if they could pass the driving standards I would set, fine, but most Americans and aliens would be buying Schwinns if I were testing. :)

When I was living in Merced there were plenty of S.E. Asians (Mongs) working in the Strawberry fields alongside the migrant workers from Mexico. The only workers who didn't seem like immigrants were the Supervisors.

In October I was in an automobile accident. A guy driving a Chevy Astro minivan plowed into me from behind at about 30 MPH. Before the accident I had no problem with illegals getting driver's licenses. The accident changed my mind. I am using the other guys insurance to pay for my medical expenses to get my back and neck in working order. His insurance already paid for the totaled car I was driving. If an illegal had hit me, I doubt very much he would have been insured. He would have walked away, probably gone back across the border to escape the law and responsibility. I would have been left with a totaled car and injuries which I would have been forced to pay out of my own pocket, virtually impossible. Just the thought makes me shudder.

CypherDude1:

Be certain to purchase UMC (uninsured motorist coverage). Here in Florida the problem you describe is quite prevalent. Without UMC you don't get property damage to your car and contents or personal injury damage, except PIP coverage (for a large percent of medicals). I wouldn't drive a car anywhere in the U.S. without UMC, but expecially in Cali, Texas and Florida.

Not over with. Tennessee gave illegals Licenses and in January Georgia is looking to do the same.

11-25-2003 Immigration to U.S. Speeds Up

"Advocates of mass immigration justified the record-breaking immigration levels of the 1990s on labor market demands," said FAIR director Dan Stein.

"The past two years prove conclusively that immigration today is wholly unrelated to economic needs and conditions in this country," he said.

There have been a few signs that the influx is producing some anti-immigrant sentiment. A poll last year by the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations found that 60 percent of the public regarded the present level of immigration to be a "critical threat to the vital interests of the United States." Fifty-five percent said immigration should be reduced.

In the 1990s, some 11.2 million immigrants came to the United States. They and their 6.4 million children accounted for almost 70 percent of U.S. population growth over the decade, census figures showed. There are an estimated 8 million to 11 million illegal immigrants in the country.

Frank Sharry, director of the pro-immigration National Immigration Forum, said in a recent analysis on Immigration Daily, an online publication that even with the economic slowdown there was a demand for immigrant labor.

"The home-grown workforce of Americans is inexorably declining," he said.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's OK, that's what the AT Economic experts want and getting.

Gaaah! Why? I wouldn't think Georgia and Tenessee would do such a thing, but you never really know what to expect from the crazy politicians today. I should hope that they do not because both of those states boarder mine. They need to realize that they are called "illegals" for a reason. They shouldn't be here to get liscenses in the first place! Anyway, enough of me blowing off some steam here. Would you happen to have a link for some more information on those situations? Thanks.

Google search Tennessee illegal aliens reveals:

Illegal Aliens Storm Tennessee for ID

Less than a week after Tennessee state legislators enabled illegal aliens to apply for driver?s licenses without fear of detection, more than 30,000 people jumped into line at Department of Safety (DOS) offices to get the coveted identification document.

Lunacy in Tennessee - Illegal alien driver's licenses
[L=http://www.americanpatrol.com/IMMIGRATION/TENNESSEE/DLsforIAsLTR-010522TN_.html[/L[/L]

In a fit of monumental stupidity, Tennessee has passed into law a bill allowing illegal aliens to get drivers licenses. The purported reasoning was to make the roads safer, but how do you treat a disease by concerning yourself with its symptoms?

Over the past two weeks, it has been impossible to get your drivers license renewed at any state drivers license site because of the illegals wrapped completely around the outside of the building. Even so, 60% of the illegals fail the drivers exam, and they bring so many forged documents to the test that state troopers have been posted at the doors to examine and seize any bogus identifications.

The illegals response? They want to sue, saying they are being picked on!

God help us. Since Tennessee is now more illegal friendly, I'm certain the numbers of illegals will rise to new levels, as will the numbers of drunk and uninsured idiots on the roads.

Georgia & Alabama Congressman propose legalizing all Hispanic illegal aliens

Illegal aliens are illegal aliens whether they come from Mexico to work at a landscaping service or arrive from Saudi Arabia with the intent of blowing up a bridge.

Once you get past "illegal" the motivation is different. That's the reason it is easy to have compassion for people below our southern border and look the other way.

The bill in the House belongs to Georgia Republican Charlie Norwood, but Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions has a companion bill about ready, also.

In February when he announced a program to train Alabama state troopers for immigration duty, Sen. Sessions said he was convinced "overwhelmingly that Hispanics in Alabama are here legally and are authorized to be here."

National policy should be to get all illegals out of the country. One reason authorities ignore illegal Hispanics, however, is that they are a cheap labor source.

What are you talking about? Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama have gone Republican for the last 5 years. Gore didn;t even win his own State of Tennessee. Georgia has the first Republican Governor since the Civil War.

Whew OK. Well on your comment, who is supporting the Dems in California that are falling all over themselves?
They continued with big Government and big Government spending allowing an Army led by the Terminator himself to sweep in and try and fix the mess.

I'd be intersted in seeing how Arnold tries to avoid adding to big Government on the State level when the Federal level Republicans have gone into old Democrat mode and now are into Big Government.

Stop being such a hypocrite. If you?re going to criticize a politician for an action, then criticize all of them, not just the ones you don't like.

Then why did you only post this

why do people support the Dems when the Dems are the ones giving illegals a DL?

When two hours earlier Dave posted that a republican in Georgia is proposing the same thing?
