The Butterfly Effect

GasX

Lifer
Just watched this movie with my wife. Not the ending you want to experience when you are sitting next to an 8 month pregnant woman...

What is the difference?

different ending

edit: also changed a few things throughout the movie so the different ending makes sense.

They just seemed to go way too far out of their way to throw every form of human misery into that movie to make it edgy so Ashton could break free from the comedy mold.

.....i think the directors cut is better. darker.

the ending of the directors cut is both cheesy and fitting

SPOILER WARNING:
in the theatrical version.... Evan goes back and scares Kayleigh away, and then shows him in regular time burning all his journals... this is a loophole, his journals that showed the events that happened in the movie, wouldn't have existed.. not being friends with kayleigh would have changed a lot

main director's cut version.... Evan goes back to the womb and strangles himself with the umbilical cord... this makes sense.. remember that Jason said "you cannot play god", and that his mom had two stillbirths prior.. that suggests that the 'god' disorder/ability was in his prior two brothers as well.. and that they may also have gone back to the womb to change things

quite frankly, there is a few different paths i would have taken that could have led to everything being good for everyone.. but makes for a good movie 🙂

...

I'm glad I didn't see that one, that's just stupid.

that's not true. I'm bored so i'm actually watching the movie again right now. he started the journals because the psychologist told him to. it was supposed to help him remember things since he suffers from blackouts.

Nay. His blackouts were caused by what he saw happen between Kayleigh and her father. The journals should not have existed.

EDIT : Alright, one site said so, others say it's simply the time-travel.

Probably my favorite movie of all time, but probably only because I saw the theatrical cut first. The OP obviously saw the theatrical cut by the comment he made.

Loved the moral that as much as you try to change things, some things were never meant to be. That and his expression of true love. (The real moral has a better construction than the way I said it, but you get the point.)
