The Butterfly Effect Question...

I've watched the movie once on DVD. I thought it was the directors cut, but someone is telling me different. Now I come to you...which is the Theatrical release and which is the directors cut?

Director's cut ending = They see each other on the street, glace at one another, stop, and then keep walking.

Theatrical cut ending = ...as an embryo, he chokes himeself on the embilical cord.


....or is it the other way around? Someone please clear this up for me.

I didn't find the movie all that good. I mean, why does he have to do the extremes? He coulda backed off to avoid getting arrested.
