Down of course. Toast with butter/jelly always lands stuff-side down, and this is true for all humanoid species that can make toast(i.e. if were were significantly taller, gravity would have to be less, so the toast would spin slower, counteracting the greater hight fall due to higher people/counters; the converse is also true).
