i'm watching the Bourne Supremacy, probably for the 2nd time, and it strikes me,

this is NOT the bourne of the books. the bourne character in the books is a highly trained agent sent out to imitate Carlos.

in the movie, Bourne is a operative used as a killer.

overall the movie was a decent movie but i don't feel it represents the books all that well.

The books were written years ago during the Cold War. Lots of changes had to be made to make a modern day movie out of it.

i wouldn't say it sux. it was nowhere near as bad as the Mission Impossible series of movies with Tom Cruise when comparing originals with movie adaptations.

i just didn't like that they change the substance of the character of bourne.

books were some of the best i'd ever read.

the movies are better than average, much much better than Mission Impossible 1 and 2 for example, but not even close to best movies i'd ever seen.

also, wtf was up with the end of bourne supremecy?

Which part?

Spoiler!

The part where the bad guy commits suicide or the part where he explains to the girl about how he assassinated her parents?

I'm the same way. It has been so long since I read the books that I don't even remember.

edit: Quick look at Wikipedia shows that this is one of yet many other ways where the books in no way match the movies.

I'd rather prefer movies not follow books.
I read King's "Green Mile" and the movie was exact copy of the book. Word for word, scene for scene. It was great for those who never read that book before, but it was boring if you did.

What strikes me is how people get upset over how movies and books don't always follow exactly the same line. Some books would just suck as a movie, so they re-write parts of it.

what? no. He finally tracks her down at her little seaside cafe. They reunite and then it ends.

I read the Green Mile prior to seeing the movie and thought that the reason the movie was excellent was because it followed the story so closely. A great book can translate into a great movie, Green Mile proves it... best adaptation I've ever seen.

Literature and film are different mediums... I don't like it when people compare books to movies, judge the movie on it's own terms - unless it's a remake of a movie!
