and they are total lazy asses! 4 people (big wigs in the company) here at work have gotten their kids work at the office and none of them do anything but sit around and look stupid. Supposedly my work is going through some "hard times" at the moment financially and doesn't have any extra money.... except apparently to pay their own damned kids to sit around and surf the net.

Sorry, just had to vent.... It's frustrating to be the only person here who is working my ass off.

I'm not overly fond of nepetism, especially in a small office. It's not really good on the morale seeing the bosses daughter/son-in-law doing less work than you, or anyone else for that matter, and getting 5x the "fringe" benefits.

Not that I've seen this happen in my office.

that sucks and would piss me off too.

create a bogus hotmail account and send a email to all the people who hired their kids letting them know about thier job performance.

I've worked in environments before where some of the executives would get their sons / daughters intern positions in the data center I once worked in. I think the mangers and supervisors of our group were equally to blame because they wouldn't assign these "interns" any hard work because they didn't want the interns whining to their parents. Although it's good for the executive's ego to push their children into these assignments without anyone really questioning the practice, it really does disrupt the morale of the unit.

Hey, I got my job only because my dad works here, but he's not my boss. I do stuff when they have things for me to do. Meh.

I don't mind it when they bring in there kids to empty the garbage or do the mail or just to be general lackies. But when they're paying there kid twice as much as everyone else just to surf the net, that's not cool.

I would have no problem hiring my kids to work with me. And actually, I hope to do just that when they get old enough.

HOWEVER... I would be doing them a huge disservice if they weren't held to the same standards as every other employee in their position. The expectations of them may actually be higher than their peers.

But yes, I've worked with the Boss' kid before... And more often than not, they never hold up their share of the workload.

Uggh....that's the worst. I worked in an environment like that---the boss hired his two nephews. The first was was really cool and humble. He went to great lengths to make sure he didn't get any special treatment. The other one automatically crowned himself "Master of Everyone Around Him" and tried to take over. He had no real authority so we pretty much laughed at him. (He acted kind of like a homo too, which really fueled the fire). I think he got his house TP'ed a few times :)

how old are they? maybe you can ask them to give you a hand with some minor work. If they don't want to do it then the'll most likely make up some something and say they're busy.

I bet the're most likely bored out of their skulls and afraid to bother other people around the office.

To be honest, I'm one of those kids. I'm working at my dad's office because I'll be heir to it after he retires. Thing is, since the secretaries do most of the grunt work, and I don't yet have my insurance license, theres not much I can do besides surf ATOT.

Any work overflow I take I end up doing several times faster than the secretaries can (10 minutes to transcribe a dictation vs. 1 hour for them) plus I do a lot of general errand/lackey work for my parents as well, so I'm not TOTALLY useless.

Oh yeah, and I'm getting paid crap, so don't start whining to me about overpayment.

As long as they do their share of the work, I have no problem with it. I think a lot of parents think their kids can do more than they actually can.

where i work, it's just labor.. but this one kid who's 16, i'm 20, gets $2/hr more than me since he's one of the managers son. Sure, he's worked there one summer before, but i don't see $2/hr raises for what we do (photo lab, sorting crap... doing it cause i need school moneys). He ditches out early half the week. They of course don't seem to care much. Oh well, two more weeks and i'm outta there.

They range from 16 year old who I've heard from his parents (two of my bosses) "He's a little slow.... but that's good ol'<insert name here>. " to a 27 year old that is married and still lives with his parents. The other two used to hang out in our server room until I started working here as I wouldn't put up with their $hit. They used to sit here and play games.... ON THE SERVERS. Recently I uninstalled Starseige Tribes and Quake 3 from two of our Win2k servers. How freaking stupid do you have to be to play games on a server.... that MUST be stable 24/7?

That has to be one of the most mind-bogglingly stupid things I've ever heard of someone doing when it comes to network management.

If you still work there, you should run now, while you still can...

my dad usedto hire me in the summers. he's a VP at an OEM computer company. anyways, i'd just do normal computer repair stuff, and people knew i was their bosses son. Basicaly my productivity was about 200% of a normal employees so no one bothered me. plus i got paid the same, and worked 10 hours a day like them. so i didnt get any special treatment. then again, half the time my dad would be asking me at dinner what we should do to improve the place, and i'd tell him about the lazy ass people, so well... things did get changed .

at first i thought it'd be uncomfortable, but i think it just depends on what the parent gets the kid to do. i mean i didnt want to be treated special, i'd just have felt bad.

i have worked for my father and step-father many times. my father owns his own car lot. i started working there at 14 as a lot boy (read lot lacky) though i did make $10 an hour. but i did work my ass off for the few hours i was there.

My step-father owns a construction company in OR. he made me work with him in the summer. i made good money and the work was hard. i finally got him to put me in the office. pay was good but not great.

Man... I would work my ass off for $5 an hour... 12 hours a day, any kind of work, I'm there. Except for hazardous ones.

:(

Talk about nepotism..... my aunt owns an Allstate.... In the office at any one time: Me, my aunt, my uncle(her husband) her dad(he origionally owned it) and her son. It is great. I love my job and the people i work for. We all work hard...most of the time;) It's a small office, and even though i don't like business, i have thought about taking over the business after she retires...If she is still in business. Now rates are so high, it's scarry.

Yeah, that's pretty stupid. Actually, that's really stupid. I play text-based Go Fish on my workstation sometimes, but that's it for gaming at work. Playing an OpenGL/Direct3D game on a major server requires a real idiot.
